also if i dont have a dvdr..can i read the dvd with a dvd rom (not sure of the term) , make an image and burn it with a cd burner?

On the DVD thing, search the Forum on the keywords "DVD Rip". This has been done to death here!

It is a pleasure to help as my 1400+ posts testify. Even if it takes a terse reply to ask you to search the Forum, something you signed up to when you entered the Forum.

Anyway, I didn't answer your other question by reason of time. The question was:

i have a ps2 and was under the impression that i could play copied psx games on the ps2 console. only some of the games work.some need the boot disk, others dont and some just wont work at all. is this normal??

The ones that don't work are the concern. The others are a question of which modchip you have, whether the games are of the same origin as your PS2, etc. So more details please:

PS2?
Modchip?
Games that don't play?
How were they copied?
Burner & copy software settings?
Behaviour symptoms when failing?
