does anyone know how to load a Mame game on the dc ?

I have loaded mamedc up and once its loaded the games list comes up but i cannot figure how to load the games and then play them I have pressed the A botton and it says loading and then when its loaded it goes back to the game selection screen .
I have tried the keyboard and joypad .
could someone please help me out

i got maned and if you have the same one its becuse some of the romz dont work but have you tried them all cause some work on mine
