Gameshark CDX - Can it be used w/ back-ups?

HI,

I'm getting a back up of the Gameshark CD 3.3 for the Dreamcast and have a question(s) about using it:

Can one use it with Back-ups and can they be non-selfboot ones?

How do we go about saving the codes without the hardware part that comes with retail package?

In case that can be done with non self-boot games, considering one has to boot with the Utopia cd first, what are the steps to activate the codes to play the game?

1) Yes and sometimes

2) Use a memory card

3) Follow these steps:

- Use CDX, select codes, select start game

- Put in Boot Disc

- Let it load then swap Boot Disc with Game disc

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
