Hello,
I have an original PS2 jap 10000, with utility disc 1.1 (yes I know this is not the one you are supposed to have with the 10000, but I bought in HK and they where keeping all of the 1.0 to add the DVD multiregion support to memory carts).
Anyway, I have not patched a game for about 6 months (got a bit fed up with the crappynes of the releases at the time), but now with all the great games out there I am back on the wagon.
I have a lot of Cdrwin Bin/que files from the net which I have patched with Fargo for a jap utility CD, but they do not play in my machine. They do however work in my mates UK machines, one using Neo4 the other Neo2.2 gameshark setup.
Has something changed?
What could I be doing wrong?
Hopefully this problem can be rectified by using the Paradox Universal Patcher or the ASA Patcher, both available from megagames.com and both of which prepare the image for booting behind the Utility Disk. You can search my earlier posts for the technical gen on what happens.

I will give the Paradox patcher a go then, thanks.
I have read through a lot of posts now and have a few more questions.
FYI my chip was fitted in HK so I do not know what type it is but its behaviour is thus:
for PS2 backup : boot with utility disc, tray opens for a few seconds, swap with backup CDR, tray closes and games loads.
for PS1 backup : same method but you have to swap TWICE with an original jap PS1 game.
Is this the same as your chip?
Questions:
1. If a DVD-rip to CD game is larger than 624 meg and thus needs a larger TOC file,
will it not boot at all?
will it boot but crash?
or will it try to boot, ps logo appear, and then complete loading?
2. If the DVD-rip is greater than 650meg, you have previously said that by using the jap DVD region X CD it will work. Do you have a copy of this .rar so I can give it a go as the link points to digital-forums which has been closed as it was run by Raptor, AKA, owner of www.playstationmods.com, AKA, producer of the NEO4 who have been shafted by Sony.
3. Will a DVD-R boot with utility CD?
or does it boot directly on the 10000?
or will I need to fit a origa chip?
I ask this as on the origa site it says it does not support DVD-R so I am just trying to get my head around this.
4. Can you give me a link to some DVD-R backup info, I have a DVD recorder at work now so will give it a go, what software do I need.
Thanks a lot for your prompt response to my original question.

ANSWER: The behaviour is identical if not the chip

ANSWER: It will not boot all all with the Utility Disk. It will/may revert to the PS2 Browser screen.(You're going to tell me that you get the Patched By logo!)

ANSWER: It won't work with JAP DVDR-X so far as I know if you only have the current modchip which ONLY permits PS2 CD swaps with the Utility Disk. But here is the link if you want to try (and you should so that it can be documented): see my post of 30-Nov @ 23:07

3. Will a DVD-R boot with utility CD?
ANSWER: NO
or does it boot directly on the 10000?
ANSWER: NO
or will I need to fit a origa chip?
ANSWER: If your modchip is the same as mine, NO. With this modchip, you boot with a Jap DVD original game that has a larger TOC than your DVD-R and when the DVD ejects swap in the DVD-R. The OrigaChip allows you to make that a PAL original if you want! But I gather that v1.2 doesn't boot originals so you'll need a 1.11 or 1.12 if you need to boot a DVD-R with a PAL original DVD..
I ask this as on the origa site it says it does not support DVD-R so I am just trying to get my head around this.
ANSWER: When/if you install OrigaChip, keep your existing chip so that you can use DVD-R.
4. Can you give me a link to some DVD-R backup info, I have a DVD recorder at work now so will give it a go, what software do I need.
ANSWER: You need PrimoDVD. Please search the Forum on PrimoDVD and you'll see a link. When you've got it, I can e-mail you a guide.
Must go I've just finished trying a DVD burn with NERO v5.5.6.4 on cheap media!

I have read your previous threads.
Keen to try the boot utility swap to jap region X trick for larger TOC Cd's, but need the region X ISO.
Do you have it? as the link in your other thread no longer works, as I previously stated, it is on the dead digital-forums site.
Sorry, I hadn't noticed the defunct link. I don't know where else it is. What country are you from? Please contact me by e-mail through the link in this forum.
