View Full Version : Question about ripping language files from "Metro 2033" & "Metro Last Light" Redux

Hi all,

I've been looking around and was wondering if anyone here has dealt with ripping language files from either title. Both use the same iteration of the "4A Engine" for the "Redux" versions of the titles. I've attempted using modding tools designed for the sequel title, "Metro Exodus", however it would seem these are title specific and my naive hopes of it being applicable to other titles using the same engine and similar file formats were dashed. I'm not too familiar with the modding scene for video games and my search hasn't strayed far from mainstream modding community sites like nexusmods.

My two other attempts at figuring out these titles were to firstly see if any of the fan translations (and the tools the devs used to apply said translations) could be used to unpack and repack the ".vfs0" (container files used by both titles for majority of game data) files but alas nothing came from this.

My third and final attempt was through trial and error see if perhaps each language pack was tied to its own ".vfs0" files. These tests indicate this not to be the case.

Any insight anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

So it turns out I was using a different tool to extract metro exodus files, MetroEX (https://www.moddb.com/games/metro-exodus/downloads/metroex-v03) allows me to view and extract the contents of both 2033 and Last Light Redux container files! I'll update when I figure out how to rip and rebuild these archives.

For anyone reading this in the future who is in the same dilemma as myself, it seems (at the time of writing) no public tools for injecting/rebuilding the archives exist. Perhaps in the future someone will change this (or myself, who knows!), but for now it seems this goal is not possible.
