Charlie! If you may please answer my question:
Since I've been using DVD Region X so far, Supposed I want an Action Replay. Can this be downloaded and burned or do I have to buy it?
Thanks.
It can be downloaded and burned in principle. I boot with PAL DVDRX and recently downloaded JAP DVDRX and booted it behind the other one. Also I know that GS/1.9 (download-->backup) can be booted behind GS/1.7. So, Yes. And that solves the odd problem about AR2 versions for particular boot cases.

I kinda lost you on that one.
Can you give me a little more details?
What odd problem is there?
All I know is that I need GS or AR to play DVD-R's.
But my question is weather a disc is all I need? Isn't there a key that I need also?
Can I really boot Game Shark on a PAL PS2?
Where can I download what I need?
What do I need to download in order to have the least problems?
Hope I didn't swirl your brains with all these questions.
Thanks!
Gilad.

ANSWER: For example, GS/1.9 is good for booting DVD Rips > 650 MB (I believe); that sort of problem. Generally, there are different versions of GA/AR that best handle different situations. I'm not going to list them all here because I'd have to search the Forum for those posts and you could just as well do that.

ANSWER: I use DVDRX and not AR/GS so I don't know the detailed GS behaviour. I.e. I don't know what happens when you boot GS without the key; there is an option to select "without codes" and it may be that you can boot GS/AR without the key and use it to pull in a backup that way. It will only cost you a 10 minute download and a blank CD-R to find out.
Where can I download what I need?
ANSWER: ####://www.pacificnet.net/~huyhoang/gs_ar/

ANSWER: GS/1.9 or AR2/1.7 If they won't boot without the key and if nobody else offers you a more expert answer just try it. I guess you're making good progress now and laerning as you go.
Hope I didn't swirl your brains with all these questions.
Thanks!

Thanks, Charlie!!!
Where do you find these sites? I can search for years and not find these things!
All I want the AR for is for the DVD-R's. All the others I will boot using DVDRX.
Can you tell me how can I find information weather I can boot DVD-R's with AR without a key?
Thanks.
Charlie,
question for ya old chum.
Can i download this ar1.7 image burn it to cdr and then use that with my REGION X dongle to boot dvdrs????

DAL
In principle you should be able to do this and the DVD-R should play as per the boot method tabled at PS2OWNZ. So obviously you're gonna be no good to help answer Gunblade's AR2 question for a while! I was going to try it this weekend and I don't have an AR2 key. So we'll find out one way or another, but, of course, I don't use that method to boot DVD-Rs.

We're pulling out the stops to get the answers for you on AR2.
As for the URLs, it comes with the 1,100 posts. There are 24,000 members and a dozen or so show their appreciation by sharing their little gems.
GUNBLADE: I downloaded AR2/1.7, burned it and booted it OK behind DVDR-X; it requires the key. SO that's that one put to bed and a CD-R you owe me because you didn't do that!
DAL: I just re-read your post. You want to use the DVDR-X dongle!!! Wow - great if it works, another first for the top team. Why don't you waste a disk and try it! The AR2 download is at the site I declared a few posts back in this thread.

I tried burnning AR two, but it didn't boot even behind DVDRX.
Which program did you use to burn it?
I used CDRWin 4.0 beta.
By the way, thanks for doing so much to try and help.
CDRWin 3.8F
I can't make 4.0 Beta work so I've binned it and I advise you to do the same! The best version I've found is 3.8D. 3.8F has no copying problems but there appears, with Windows 2000, to be a lurker that disturbs modem connexions after you close it.
Goodnight - it's bedtime and you should be asleep too.

Well, even before I read the respond, I already installed 3.8F, so it works. Thanks!
But... Of course, it doesn't boot without the key, so I guess buying is required... Unless you can think of a solution to that?
Yes - buy, buy, buy and the CD-R you owe me!

In my country, a single CDR costs 2 Sheqels. That means about half a U.S dollar, or about a 1/3 of a Pound. Now how would you like me to deliver a huge amount of money like that all the way to the U.K???

That's your problem! We'll wait until it reaches, say, 3 CDs or better still one or two DVDs and I'll give an address in Tel Aviv who'll bring the stuff (for me to test, of course) to the UK in due course. Say, March!
So keep asking questions.
Gor it all working yet or are you going to charge me for the answer? You should be quite an expert via the hard way by now.

Well, I found the Gameshark image to download in a different site with another file seperated from the image with an .sfv extension.
Does this mean anything to you?
My guess is this is a file that you can somehow place on a memory card to make it "act" like a gameshark key.
The question is: if this is actually the case, how can you transfer a PC file to a mem card?
I suggest you make this a new topic without my name in it! I know very little about GS/AR as I dont use it.

Well... Thanks anyway Charlie.
I have an original AR 1.6 and a neo 2.5
whats the exact procedure i have to follow after burning the 1.7 to boot dvdrs?
sorry to sound stupid
thanks
Charlie can you tell me how you burned the ar 1.7 to cd?
I have downloaded from the site you mentioned.
Once unzipped and unpacked it produced a cue sheet and a bin file which i suppose is normal except when i try to burn it with cdr win it only seems to burn a small amount of the data.
Another program which checked the size of the cue and bin files said that they were too big to fit on one cd.
Any ideas?
Regards ARGO.

Just use the CDRWin defaults for burning. It's only about 50MB. That's what I did.
Thanks Charlie for replying iv'e got it now.
That Messiah chip looks good in your list of hardware, i was quoted last week £125 for one fitted by a local chipping company
and i'm still thinking about it.
They told me the are being supplied from somewhere in Spain.
In the mean time i'll just use the knife/tray method which i know you don't like but i find it dead easy in fact i don't use a knife at all i think its the thought of sticking a knife in there that makes it sound so brutal.
Anyway thats a different subject and thanks again you've been one of the top guys on site for a long time now.
