Diablo2 multiplayer (LAN) games not possible with burned copy?

I used a burned copy to install Diablo2. I already read that playing via Battle net was not possible due to the crack.

Recently I installed a network at my home and am able to play via the network several games but not Diablo2.

Is this not possible?
