Welcome to the forum.
1. Make sure to have the game installed.
2. Download & extract the DI_1xDVD5.7z ( NOT in your gamefolder, just on your HD)
3. Follow the rest of the steps listed for the conversion.
4. If you dont have freearc grab it from
www.freearc.org
5. Any problems or you dont understand something, just ask. The members here are very helpful.

Here it is in 8 simple steps, if you follow each step one at a time you cant go wrong. ;)
1) Create a Temp folder on your hardrive.
Name this folder: DI_DVD.
2) Install the game from the 'Dead Island DVD9'.
3) Download the 'DI_1xDVD5.7z' file from the attachment at the bottom of 'peter's' post and extract the contents of the 7zip file to the 'DI_DVD' folder.
4) MOVE the 'Redist' folder from the 'game's install folder' to the 'DI_DVD\Dead_Island_DVD5' folder.
5) MOVE 'all' the '*.rpack' files from the 'Data' folder in the 'game's install folder' to the 'DI_DVD\Dead_Island_DVD5\Data' folder.
6) Using FreeArc browse to the game's install folder and compress all the files and folders in the root of the 'games install folder'.
FreeArc Settings:
Output archive: Dead_Island
Compression: -mx -ld800m
Make EXE: [DONT TICK THIS)
Note: After the compression process finishes you will have a file named 'Dead_Island.arc' in the games install folder.
7) MOVE the 'Dead_Island.arc' file from the 'games install' folder to the 'DI_DVD\Dead_Island_DVD5' folder.
8) Burn the contents of the 'Dead_Island_DVD5' folder to a DVD (or Create an ISO) with any Label you choose.

follow post #11 instructions to make your DVD5. Then uninstall your original game BEFORE trying to install the DVD5 version.

So what will be the ISO final size?
3.99 gb, but with more complicated procedure that requires too much time is possible to create an iso < 1.90 gb

Both autorun menu and installer were built with Inno Setup. The compression methods to archieve so small sizes are FreeArc, PreComp and SRep.
Peterf's latest installers are able to compress the game files with several methods, such as FreeArc, PreComp and SRep (And even all of them at same time!) by using IsDone.dll, but these setups has no "source code" avaliable (Almost all of his installers are already pre-compiled).
However, you should try his installer for The Witcher 2 done by him (http://fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=91517).
As far as I know (AFAIK), it supports FreeArc and PreComp compression, and has all the pages of this custom installer - Including autorun menu and the System Requirements page. Don't know about SRep or multi-disk support for ARC files, but it's a huge first step, if you wanna know!
For reference, you can use Yener90's installer (http://fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=91563) too!
He released the sources of his installers, so take a look.
Yener's installers are, for saying so, "simple" (No "Syetem requirements" nor "Add to firewall" pages), but true candidates for "Games For Windows" certificated installers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Games_for_Windows) due to being easy and intuitive to install, not to mention they're visually nice! I don't remember the kind of compression it supports, but considering some of Yener's custom installers, FreeArc and Multi-disk support for UNCOMPRESSED files should be avaliable.
For an additional reference, try this post of mine (http://fileforums.com/showpost.php?p=395157&postcount=11).
Before "going crazy" with "coding hell", it's interesting to note that they are pretty easy to MODIFY to your needings: Just change the parameters of a specific game in Peterf's installer codes (You'll need to search a little in the codes, but it's worthy) or Yener90's INI file provided with the sources. I'm not a programmer, but I know what I need to change in peterf's installer code to "create" a new custom installer.
As a last note, for damn powerful autorun menus ONLY (You can actually use it to build a "install-capable" autorun menu, but the "uninstaller" part is up to you...), you should try Autoplay Media Studio (http://www.indigorose.com/products/autoplay-media-studio/). I know it's a paid $oftware, but Indigorose released the "Autoplay Media Studio Personal edition (http://www.autoplay.org/)", which is free.
The differences between Free and Paid editions are just... "lame" IMHO: Free ed has no support (Go to the Indigorose forums and google; you don't need "support" anyway!), cannot build the autorun .exe file with a custom icon (You can use a separated icon for autorun.inf when needed) and, after closing an autorun menu built with this version, a splash image with the text "Powered by AutoPlay Media Studio Personal Edition" will appear. You see, no big deal, the rest is all the same.

Just to make it clear: Extracting the setup script with Unniversal Extractor (And, for the matter, with InnoUnp), is useless.
After re-compiling everything from a extracted .ISS file in these ways, it'll become the "always-simple" Inno Setup installer, with no autorun menu, no FreeArc + PreComp + Srep extraction support, no pretty pages (the same with "System Requirements" and "Add to Firewall list" ones) and, last but not least, no custom code required to sucessfully compile that.
The compile error was because it cannot find the "getLngID" function, which won't come with the extracted script.
BTW, the "innoUnp" (Command line app used by Universal Extractor for InnoSetup unpacking) site explains that it extrats a PARCIAL script - Only the basics. (http://innounp.sourceforge.net/)
There are a LOT of codig that won't be unpacked this way, so you need to add them by hand. And guess what? No "easy way" to do that, no matter where you find all thye codes, no matter how easy is the Inno's coding (Pascal, right?).
To edit the setup the way you want, you must edit some code already avaliable. I've already gave a suggestion some posts ago, now it's up to you.

has someone tried this conversion with the arena dlc?
Yes, and unfortunately, by following all steps of Peterf's conversion, the final size will be aboput 4,60Gb (Above DVD5 capacity).
Yener90's conversion (http://fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=91914), however, works properly with the game and the DLC (http://fileforums.com/showpost.php?p=400061&postcount=16), but because yener's conversion compress almost all the game files in the .ARC (In his conversion it's renamed to .CAB) file.
Fortunately, due to the way the files are installed in Peterf's installer (1st the files inside "data" folder, then decompress the .ARC file in the game folder), you can make a small modification to the conversion AND archieve a 1xDVD5 with the game and the DLC. I'll quote the entire conversion to show what to do:
Dead Island (1x DVD5) *INNO+FreeArc*
1) Extract 'DI_1xDVD5.7z' contents
2) Move from Game's installation folder :
'Redist' folder to 'Dead_Island_DVD5' folder
ONLY the smallest '*.rpack' file you can find from:
'(Game's installation)\\DI\\Data' folder
to the
'Dead_Island_DVD5\\Data' folder
3) Launch FreeArc and then compress all files/folders in the root of game's installation folder:
Output archive: Dead_Island
Compression: -mx -ld800m
Make exe: Not checked
4) Move 'Dead_Island.arc' file to 'Dead_Island_DVD5' folder
5) Burn or make iso with label name of your choice
Basically, instead of moving all and every .rpack files (As described in the original conversion), you'll just move the smallest one you'll ever find (And the smallest one is just 1kb, assuming game + DLC). So all the remaining .rpack files will be compressed (Like it's done in Yener's conversion) during step 3, and we'll get 1xDVD5 again.

Give all the credits to Peterf! He did the installer.
Oh, and give a LOT of thanks to Yener90 too! Thanks for his conversion method (http://fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=91914) (And a little of observation), I was able to see how to "fix" peterf's one! :D
Which reminds me: Peterf's free to change the conversion with my info and put NO PROPER CREDIT to me.
