View Full Version : What's the normal ohms for GD-ROM laser?

OK - I've read the CD-RW mod info saying that the DC should be at 400-500 ohms for CD-RWs. What should it be at normally?

I'm asking because I have a "busted" DC that needs a laser fix. Everything works fine - the problem is that the pot-meter on the GD-ROM head won't stay in place & keeps sliding back (after a point it doesn't even read regular GDs). I'm going to take it into my tech shop and solder a resistor onto there. The question is - what is the NORMAL ohms for the GD-ROM laser? I don't need to use CD-RWs with this - I just want it to quit crapping out on me in the middle of an online UT match.

Post a reply or email it to me ( mercenaryforhire@chalktv.com )

Thanks again!

Thanks for the ohm measurement Bob. I'll use a 700 ohm just to be safe. You might wanna try a different brand of CDRWs for yours; my portable VCD player is picky about brands so maybe the DC is too.
