View Full Version : spellforce - the order of dawn CD-Key problem
hi ,
i have spellforce, the order of dawn v1.0
i had compatibility problems with this and installed the 1.38 patch, this solved the problem i had.
i now have the problem where spellforce is asking for the cd-key EVERY time i start the game.
it is getting rather tiresome inputting the 25 digit key every time i want to play the game.
is there a fix for this?
help please
Have you asked the publishers/developers they will be able to help you more than we can.
And is the cd-key legit?
the CD-key is legit, it came in the box in which the game was packed when i bought it.
sounds like the game is not saving your cdkey in the registry when you close it down, i would contact the publishers.

Monitor registry accesses in the system with Sysinternals' RegMon or ProcMon.
ok guys, i've sent an e-mail to the support team at jowood and now waiting for a reply.
i'm using windows vista and can't find regmon or procmon to monitor the registry, it's either vista or me, not sure which :p
thanks for your help guys.

get process monitor or process explorer i think, they kinda pushed regmon and filemon into them (sysinternals.com)..
as for waiting for support at jowood.. i really hope you're patient :)
thanks, i've now got procmon, just trying to figure out how to sort through it and find out about the CD-key input :/
wish me luck

i was just thinking... is there any known compatibility problems with spellforce and vista??
on the reverse of the case, it says it works with 98, Me and XP.
i forgot to mention that i am running my PC with vista.
does anyone know anything??
Again talk to the publisher/developer they can help you more.
just to let you guys know.
i've asked about this on the JoWood forum and they gave the the remedy, it is as follows:
as vista is rather finicky with it's user control access,
you must right-click the desktop shortcut and then click on "Run as admin." run the game as administrator once and input the CD-Key serial number.
from this moment on, you will not have to input the number again unless a re-install is required.
thansk for your help anyways guys and i hope this info can be of any help in the future.
greetz.

vista is really a buggy operating software or the game developers was just too lazy fixing it. anyway it's nice that you found a fix for it. :)
at least you got a solution which is always good : )

Alternatively you can always shut down UAC. That way everything you run will be in administrator rights.
To do this
Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > turn off uac using bottom option. (restart is required)
