View Full Version : Grand Theft Auto IV (DVD9 to DVD5)
Grand Theft Auto IV (2xDVD9 to 4xDVD5)
You need 28GB of free space to make this conversion. (14GB for DVD files, 14GB to repack files)
1) Create TEMP folders
GTA IV Disc 1
GTA IV Disc 2
GTA IV Disc 3
GTA IV Disc 4
2) Copy content of DVD1 to 'GTA IV Disc 1' folder
Copy content of DVD2 to 'GTA IV Disc 2' folder
3) Move data3.cab from 'GTA IV Disc 2\GTAIV\' to 'GTA IV Disc 1\GTAIV\'
4) Download gta4_dvd9to4xdvd5.7z (http://fileforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=844&stc=1&d=1235766630) and extract it to 'GTA IV Disc 1\GTAIV\' folder
5) Run EditLayout.bat
Run repack_cabs.bat, after it finished you should have new data4.cab and data5.cab files
Run clean_up.bat to remove extracted iscab files
6) Before moving cab files
Copy content of 'GTA IV Disc 2' to 'GTA IV Disc 3' (autorun.inf & GTAIV\GTAIV.ico)
Copy ALL FILES/FOLDERS except data2-5.cabs from 'GTA IV Disc 1' to 'GTA IV Disc 4'
7) Move from 'GTA IV Disc 1\GTAIV\'
data3.cab to 'GTA IV Disc 2\GTAIV\'
data4.cab to 'GTA IV Disc 3\GTAIV\'
data5.cab to 'GTA IV Disc 4\GTAIV\'
8) Burn or make images with folder names as labels
GTA IV Disc 1 Size: 4,32GB
GTAIV\*.*
RGSC\*.*
Autorun.exe
Autorun.inf
GTA IV Disc 2 size: 4GB
GTAIV\data3.cab
GTAIV\GTAIV.ico
Autorun.inf
GTA IV Disc 3 size: 4GB
GTAIV\data4.cab
GTAIV\GTAIV.ico
Autorun.inf
GTA IV Disc 4 size: 1,84GB
GTAIV\*.* (All files/folders except data2-4.cabs)
GTAIV\data5.cab
RGSC\*.*
Autorun.exe
Autorun.infInstall sequence: 1-2-3-4
NOTE #1: After install finishes on Disc 4, don't remove disc yet. setup.exe stays in processes sometime but will eventually close or might need atleast opening Social Club after install. So you don't get Please insert disk error after install. (Happens with original dvds also) or remove after install and when you get error then close setup.exe through Task Manager
NOTE #2: ISCab v15 package updated with layout.bin which makes 3,9GB cabs (This because there is too much people with UltraISO program and they don't know how use it)

Perfect Install... Thks RAVD!
It asks for DVD1 at the end of installation. (wrong disc in the drive) Autorun is OFF on DVD2, DVD3 and DVD4 But it installs all software at the end? DirectX, Live etc Before removing Disc 4 or after removing Disc 4? There is this small problem, that setup.exe stays in processes after install (happens with original discs also) atleast on Vista what's that program for? what step in Ravds instructions? I'm not burning the cd, I just want to install the game without an error If you don't know how to set file system: UDF in your burning/image software then read its manual, help faqs etc to how to do it
But it installs all software at the end? DirectX, Live etc Before removing Disc 4 or after removing Disc 4?
Yes, installs everything before removing Disc 4.
;)
Grand Theft Auto IV (2xDVD9 to 3xDVD5) (TESTED with recompressed bik files)
UPDATE: There was problem after recompressing biks with earlier settings what i mentioned, when you're in game and start watching tv, it will always start at beginning of bik file. With original bik files tv channel jumping works correctly. You need to set keyframes also in RAD Video tools settings to make recompressed biks like original ones. But for some reason those two biks can't be analyzed to check what keyframe interval is in original ones so i use Key at least every: 200 for now.
You need 31GB of free space to make this conversion. (14GB for DVD files, 14GB to repack files, 2GB for extracted/compressed bik files)
1) Create TEMP folders
GTA IV Disc 1
GTA IV Disc 2
GTA IV Disc 3
2) Copy content of DVD1 to 'GTA IV Disc 1' folder
Copy content of DVD2 to 'GTA IV Disc 2' folder
3) Move data3.cab from 'GTA IV Disc 2\GTAIV\' to 'GTA IV Disc 1\GTAIV\'
4) Download iscab_15.0.0.498.zip (http://fileforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=847&stc=1&d=1235816533) and extract it to 'GTA IV Disc 1\GTAIV\' folder, overwrite when asked
5) Download layout_2,15gb.7z (http://fileforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=644&stc=1&d=1228480221) and extract it to 'GTA IV Disc 1\GTAIV\' folder, overwrite when asked
6) Create 'movies' folder in 'GTA IV Disc 1\GTAIV\'
GTA IV Disc 1\GTAIV\movies
7) Run make_list.bat and edit list.txt leaving only entries for CNT.bik and weazel.bik or copy/paste this...
[ISCAB Info]
Product=ISCAB
Version=2.0
[GTAIV_Dynamic]
File13="movies\CNT.bik"
File16="movies\weazel.bik"8) Run extract.bat
9) Download RAD Video Tools and install it, use it to recompress extracted biks
Compression Settings: Compress to a % of the original: 45
Key at least every: 200
How many frames to preview during bandwith allocation: 12 (use 64 to allocate bitrate more precisely for scenes needing more bitrate, takes longer but usually does better quality)
Compress Audio: Compress level: 4
NOTE: Use half of the res (Width: 256 Height: 192) under "Scaling type..." in RAD Video tools settings to recompress faster but quality is blurrier then
CNT.bik 997MB should be around 450MB
weazel 808MB should be around 365MB
10) After recompressing both biks, move/delete original ones from movies folder and remove New_ from names of recompressed ones.
11) Run add_and_replace.bat
12) After it finishes, move/delete movies folder and run clean_up.bat to remove extracted iscab files
13) Copy content of 'GTA IV Disc 2' to 'GTA IV Disc 3' (autorun.inf & GTAIV\GTAIV.ico)
14) Move from 'GTA IV Disc 1\GTAIV\'
data3.cab and data4.cab to 'GTA IV Disc 2\GTAIV\'
data5.cab and data6.cab to 'GTA IV Disc 3\GTAIV\'
15) Burn or make images with foldernames as labels
Install sequence: 1-2-3-1
Folder sizes for all Discs: 4,30GB (Disc 1 might differ a little)
You can also test it by making Disc 4 same as Disc 2 and Disc 3 (autorun.inf, GTAIV\GTAIV.ico, GTAIV\data5.cab)
thanks mate, this method works perfect.

ravd convertion to 3 dvd 5
i got error
http://i37.tinypic.com/2nunf2w.jpg
klaroqsim its not an error. Just insert next disc
I confirm that ravd's conversion to 3xDVD5 works. (on WinVista x64 SP1)
It took me almost 19 hours to recompress both binks
with "64 frames to preview during bandwith allocation" and with no scaling on
AMD Athlon64 X2 +4200 ...xD
Installation process works fine with sequence 1-2-3-1
but text messages are wrong:
When disc 2 needs to be inserted it says:
Please insert disc 1 that contains data2.cab
...for disc 3 text message is good, it says to insert disc 3
And when disc 1 needs to be inserted again it says:
Please insert disc 5 that contains data6.cab
--------------------------------------
I've been using instructions from this site for making backups since CoD4 was released, but i never had an account.
Grumpy, FREEMAN100 and ravd helped me multiple times.
Created account so I could comment.
ravd convertion to 3 dvd 5
i got error

Sorry about that, i didn't consider disk prompts when putting cabs to what disk
2xDVD9 to 3xDVD5 cabs should be
Disc1: data1.cab data2.cab data7.cab
Disc2: data3.cab data4.cab
Disc3: data5.cab data6.cab
So disk prompts will go like this: Please insert disc 2 (GTA IV Disc 2) -> disc 4 (GTA IV Disc 3) -> Disc 6 (GTA IV Disc 1 again)
Do 2xDVD9 to 4xDVD5 conversion if you want to your disk prompts to be correct or live with 2xDVD9 to 3xDVD5 conversion with disk prompt: disc 2, disc 4, disc 6.
There is no way how i could fix that disk prompt thingy, sorry
the volume labels can be any thing ???? I put it to each dvd "GTA IV DVD 1", "GTA IV DVD 2", "GTA IV DVD 3", "GTA IV DVD 4"
i ve given the last disc the same name like the first one.
So you dont need to put in the first disc at the end of the installation.

Try this auto splitter:
1) Download this file (http://rapidshare.com/files/178465416/GTA-IV_Auto_Splitter.rar) (opens with winrar).
2) Make a folder named GTAIV inside this folder make 2 other folders named Disc1 and Disc2 and copy all the files from the GTA IV dvds to these folders.
3) Put "GTA IV - 2 DVD9 to 4 DVD5 Auto Splitter.exe" in GTAIV folder and start it. that's all
Read the read me file for more info.
Hello.
Thanks for these guides.
I was wondering, because I cannot free 28GBs of space, is it possible to do the repacking cabs for one DVD at a time? for DVD1 first, and for DVD2 later?

must be both at the same time

What's the point of the backup if you still need the original in the drive to play? I mean, you can use the backup just once, while you still need to use the original every time you play. I did try the mini-image with latest daemon tools and YASU and securom still detects the virtual drive :(
a friend of mine told me than if you have the original DVD of GTA IV, it is legal to go www.gamecopyworld.com and download a no-cd patch for the GTA IV.

Not necessarily. It depends on which country you live in. In some countries, reverse-engineering (just finding out how software works) is legal, in some others illegal; the same for hacking/cracking (modifying the software) and for using cracks.
moot point, gamecopyworld doesn't have any no-cd crack, only mini image which does not work for me :(

It works 100%
Thanks a lot ravd :)
Beware of the ISO extration. I have incomplete cab files when I extract with UltraISO. So I did it with Winrar instead. Verify that the cab files match the size of the isos's ones before any convertion intent.
Cheers.
Hey there comes only attachment. When I download layout & iscab
Pls Help me
Links in conversions works fine.
hey like i followed ur steps untill i reached run repack_cabs.bat

Check that you have enough space on harddrive and make sure you followed conversion exactly.
I use conversion Grand Theft Auto IV (2xDVD9 to 4xDVD5) and, I follow instruction but it doesn't work, why??
Not related to conversion, Update Windows to latest Service Pack or look for possible solution from gta4 support/forums.

Thank's, excellent conversion 4DVD5.:)
is there any other way to divide the game in 4 dvds? i don't know why, but the ones on this topic dont work for me.
Yeah, of course there is another way... :)
1. Make a new folder, called e.g. 'GTA IV'.
2. Copy the contents of DVD1 into it.
3. Copy 'data3.cab' from DVD2 into the 'Gtaiv' sub-folder.
(That's, where 'data2.cab' is located, as well.)
4. Compress the whole folder you just created w/ WinRAR.
Use the following settings: see the 1st picture.
The magic number is 3999 mb (yes, you have to type-in 'mb' afterwards, as well). This is very important, because Windows just can't handle executables greater, than 4 GB. At least, my XP SP3 just won't... :o
5. Now, WinRAR will repack the whole mess, nicely split into 4 GB volumes... ;)
On my very old 3 GHz P4, this took about 45 minutes w/ the settings given...
6. If everything went to plan, you should see the following results (2nd picture),
sizes are approximate, of course.
7. Now, you can burn the files one-by-one to DVDs. You will end up w/ four DVD5 disks: each RAR-file corresponds to 1 DVD as you can see...
8. To install GTA IV, simply insert the disk containing 'GTA IV Part1.exe' and double-click. The following windows will appear (3rd picture).
There, you can choose, where to extract your install-files, and so on...
When you are ready to extract your files, just click on INSTALL.
9. WinRAR will prompt you for subsequent disks, as the extraction progresses.
Install-order is 1-2-3-4 -- would you believe? It couldn't be more simple, really! :D
10. When the WinRAR extraction is finished, just enter the extracted folder, double-click on 'autorun.exe', and presto, you are on your way. There won't even be a single disk-prompt any more, because InstallShield will find 'data3.cab' and will proceed w/ the install automatically on it's own. After you have actually installed the game, you can delete the extracted folder from your HDD, of course.
Tested, hassle-free, 100% working, even if it's not too fancy... ;)
Everything will be installed in it's original form, no need to edit 'autorun', recompress BIK-s for 20 hours, and so on... Takes only about 90 minutes of work (incl. compressing and burning of the 4 disks) if you have a faster comp... Cheers! :D
Good news is, my method is also working on GTA-EFLC... ;)
The basic procedure is the very same, as w/ GTA IV.
However, please note the following differences.
1. The folder I created this time, was named EFLC (for the sake of simplicity), but you can name it anything you like, of course.
2. You do have to copy into this folder the contents of EFLC_DISC1, as well as the contents of EFLC_DISC2 (latter is marked w/ grey on the 1st picture). These are really 2 items: the folder 'Redistributable', and the file 'data3.cab'.
3. Again, compress the folder you created w/ WinRAR, using the settings provided on the 2nd picture (basically, they are the very same settings as w/ GTA IV, only the folder-name differs). This time, the compression took a bit longer, around 50 mins. But, as you can see, the 4th DVD contains now more data, than w/ GTA IV, so it's really nothing to worry about.
4. Results are shown on the 3rd picture. :)
5. Working RAR-extracting windows is depicted on the last picture.
For detailed instructions please read my previous post, thank you!
This game will also fit onto four DVD5 disks, doesn't really matter, if -R or +R.
Also, the folder name you create, and the disk labels have very little importance... :p
On the remaining empty portions of each DVD you can put anything you like, e.g. patches, updates, cr@cks, etc.
They would not affect the RAR-extraction anyways. :)
Have fun -- you know the deal, right now!
Also working 100%, peace... ;)
Do 2xDVD9 to 4xDVD5 conversion if you want to your disk prompts to be correct or live with 2xDVD9 to 3xDVD5 conversion with disk prompt: disc 2, disc 4, disc 6.
There is no way how i could fix that disk prompt thingy, sorry
there are only 3 cabs in both the dvds

vibhu, only in the original set, once you run the repack you end up with more, as it splits the bigger cabs into smaller portions.

why i cant find data6.cab when i install its need data6.cab can anyone help me?
@itembanget
Read pakrats post above yours, he answers your question ;)
....... pakrat has psychic abilities, he knew on the 3-3-2012 that you would come along today and ask your question so he posted the answer you needed in advance. :p
BTW, it does depend on which conversion method, a quick look at Post #1 tells me it only converts to data5.cab.
Ravd's 2nd conversion method (post #7) converts up to data6.cab.
