please help. i have patched the boot disk for vga adapter but it still doesn't work right

I got the 1.1 bootcd (diskjuggler version) from this site and the vga patch. i ran the patch in the same directory and it said patched ok or whatever. i then recorded the image to cd using diskjuggler 3, it worked ok. then i put it in my dc and after teh sega logo screen goes black. i wait a while then put in any game that needs boot cd and wait. the game then comes up but the screen is gray and garbled looking (hard to explain) almost like a gameboy screen (no i am not using the gameboy emu i tried marvel vs capcom and gauntlet legends).
anyway i have made plenty of dc backups with dj always using the same settings as i did to make the bootcd. i think the problem is the patch. is there another patch or something else that i need. please help me anyone.

this may sound stupid or incorrect, but i think out of experience that if the game is not vga compatible which it states on the box it won't work even with the vga boot disc.
