I just bought an iPod nano and left it on my table overnight and it broke! I don't know what happened! So, I was wondering if any of the members here could help me pick a new mp3 player. I want it to play music and videos and not be too chunk and preferably 8GB storage

I feel very lucky with my choice of an iRiver MP3 player (iHP-140, bought 3 years ago, batterred but still working). Go choose one but make sure that the Rockbox alternative firmware (http://www.rockbox.org) runs on it! ;)

What is so good about rockbox? Would you recommend the iRiver brand?

The Rockbox firmware has an incredible amount of configuration options and functions. For my iRiver iHP-140, I found that its factory firmware has about third the functionality of the Rockbox firmware - of course, this is additional, the basic funcionality of a directory browser, audio player etc. is present in both.
My principle now is that you shouldn't buy devices (MP3 players, stand-alone DVD players etc.) from big brands (Apple, Panasonic, Sony etc.) automatically anymore. There are lots of small brands that fight for survival (more) and, therefore, their devices are more user friendly, have more functionality and are more compatible with home-made stuff (self-encoded MP3's, DVD's, DivX/XviD-rips). Otherwise, without any obvious advantage, they couldn't sell them...

My local futureshop doesn't sell any small brand audio/video players. Would wal-mart?

Oh, forgot to mention, thanks for reminding: you don't buy such stuff in self-service super-/hypermarkets but in small specialized shops where there's still a great selection of brands but, most importantly, a few knowledgable salespeople who can help you and give specific answers to your specific questions.
ikermalli, how about Sony NWZ-A815?
Read its reviews at http://www.testfreaks.com/mediaplayers/sony-nwz-a815/ and look at its score!
As for me - I'm happy owner of this mp3-player and strongly recommend it for all!
Really very nice choice!
