BIOSHOCK DVD9 TO 2X DVD5 2K 2007

The following ORIGINAL conversion was first written by Morglum from cdsteam.org. (Just moddified for this game)
Full Credit goes to him as ive only re-adjusted it to match this game..

1) Create a Temp folder on your hardrive.
Name this folder: BIOSHOCK

2) Copy all the contents from the BIOSHOCK DVD9 to the Temp folder.

3a) Download the extra files needed, and extract the contents of the rar file to the BIOSHOCK folder, overwrite the layout.bin file when prompted.
Note: The rar file contains the following files:

Iscab.exe
istools.dll
mediabuild40.dll
layout.bin (This layout.bin file was supplied by Morglum (founder of cdsteam.org)

3b) http://rapidshare.com/files/51407733/ISCAB.rar

4) Using the Notepad, open the setup.ini file (it is in the Temp folder) and edit the following line:

CHECKMD5=Y

Change it to:

CHECKMD5=N.

Then save the file.

5) Using the Command Prompt (Go to the Start button, then RUN, and type in cmd) {Place the BIOSHOCK folder in your C drive)
Go to the Temp (BIOSHOCK) directory.
Example: I did the conversion in my C: (drive)
I typed in C: then pressed Enter, then I typed in: cd BIOSHOCK
(cd means Change Directory)

To create a list.ini file type: iscab data1.cab –i"list.ini" –l

Note the spaces in the command!:

iscab(SPACE)data1.cab(SPACE)–i"list.ini"(SPACE)–l

Also note the last character in the command is a lower case L, NOT a ONE!!

(IMPORTANT) Close the command prompt down completely & start a new command prompt for the next bit or you will end up with a 256KB .CAB file

6) Go back into Windows Explorer, browse to the BIOSHOCK folder and using the Notepad open the list.ini file.
Delete all the text in the list.ini file except the top 3 lines.

NOTE: The easiest way to do this is to click just behind the 0 at the end of the Version=2.0.
Hold down Ctl+Shift and press End. (This will highlight everything except the top 3 rows of text.
Then press Delete.

Your list.ini file should now look like this:

[ISCAB Info]
Product=ISCAB
Version=2.0

Now Save the file!

7) Again using the Command Prompt (Go to the Start button, then RUN, and type in cmd)
Go to the Temp (BIOSHOCK) directory.

Type: iscab data1.cab –i"list.ini" –r

Again note the spaces in the command:

iscab(SPACE)data1.cab(SPACE)–i"list.ini"(SPACE)-r

This will split the data cab file into two cab files.
Data2.cab will be approximately 4GB
Data3.cab will be approximately 1.9GB
The process will take approximately 10 minutes depending on your system.

8) You can now delete the following files:

Iscab.exe
istools.dll
mediabuild40.dll

Note: During the cab splitting process a file named ISSetup.dll was also created. Do NOT delete this file!
Also, do NOT delete the layout.bin file.

9) Create another folder/s for any Updates, Serial, Patches and or Cracks etc.
NOTE: Name this/these folder/s whatever you want.

10) Using the Notepad, create a text file named: Serial.txt.
Copy your serial to this text file and Save it in the BIOSHOCK folder.

11) also copy the following 3 files from the First DVD5 to the second DVD5

background1.bmp
background2.bmp
background3.bmpDVD 1

12) Burn the contents of the Temp folder, to a DVD with the Label: BIOSHOCK

13) DVD 2

Using the Notepad open the autorun.inf file and edit the following line:

OPEN=autorun.exe

to

OPEN=0

So the autorun.inf file now looks like this:

[autorun]
open=0
icon=icon.ico

Then save it.
NOTE: Editing the autorun.inf file will stop the Windows Explorer window from opening when inserting Disk 2.
By also including the Icon file, on Disc 2, as well as including the autorun.inf file will give your DVD an icon in Windows Explorer when the DVD is inserted.

Then burn the Crack folder, the data3.cab file, the edited autorun.inf file and the icon.ico file to another DVD using the same label as the first DVD: BIOSHOCK Making sure you have included the 3 BMP files background1.bmp, background2.bmp, background3.bmp

(crack is still not available for this game as yet..Once its out add it to DVD2) Also @ the end of the installation the folder is deleted...So I guess the FIX will also have to deal with this too...NOT much I can do about that @ the moment untill a patch comes out to deal with it

... Going back to the DVD9-to-5-Topic...

I guess as long as mini-images are able to pass the securom check (without hacking the online-activation!) a game-backup onto 2 disks is legit to keep the original at a safe place. To pass the installer-check, a mounted image works (as some other here posted in one of the bioshock threads).

As my bought retail collectors edition (german/english, non-steam-version, "just" securom & online-activation) is a DVD 5, I didn´t bother with mini-images/conversation as my complete image passes the dvd-check (also the installer-check) without any problem.

The license-limit is indeed a pain in the ass, but as long as - let´s say in about six months - they will remove the securom-checks and license-limitation I´m fine with it. Online activation in my eyes should also be removed after a while because I´m always unsatisfied with the situation that I want to play my games in a few years without beeing any activation-servers online anymore...

Just as a heads up there 'appears' to be a working crack for this according to a thread on another board, but seeing as this bypasses the activation I can't give any info out here lest I'm struck with the big BAN STICK :eek:

AND DO NOT PM ME FOR INFO!

Other people will confirm it's existence and if it works or not, so don't clutter this thread up asking for the crack or where to get it!

The game will not finish the install unless you have an original DVD in the drive (or use a mini-image) as SecuROM checks the DVD is genuine before it downloads the EXE file from the internet. If the SecuROM downloader does not authenticate the DVD first time the install will fail and the game gets deleted, unless you rename the folder before you cancel the install.

If you do rename the folder, then rename it back and when you run the installer again and install to the same place the game will take seconds to install as the files are already there, but you still need a valid DVD/image to complete the install and a valid serial for activation.

So having a NoDVD crack is useless if you can't complete the install!!

Ha!You rename the folder,then press ok.Then put the bioshock.exe and paul.dll in the BioShock\Builds\Release folder,and play!

If you don't have the 'Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable' installed then simply renaming the folder may not work as this WILL NOT be installed if you cancel the installer! This will result in the game not running I think!

So if you haven't already got it installed you could install it manually from the 'vs redist' folder on the DVD beforehand.

On a side note, it amazes me how bloated some of these installers are! Take the Dual Core Optimizer in the 'amd dual core timing fix' folder, it's a 4.42MB Installshield setup and when you run it and look in your 'temp' folder it's extracted an 840kb MSI file! When you extract the contents of the MSI it's 3 files totalling 100kb!! So you've got 4.32Mb of Installer BLOAT :)

Check out my DVD9 to 1 x DVD5 conversion, see if it works for you. This leaves the installer intact so needs a mini-image to complete, but it's on 1 DVD now, should help FREEMAN make a 1 DVD Securomless installer :)
