Weird disc read and errors with slim ps2 with mars pro chip

Hey, I bought a slim ps2 with the mars pro chip installed, and during this spot in god of war 1 and 2, the ps2 starts making really loud disc read noises, and wont load into the correct area. Legit copys of god of war 1 and 2. I also "disabled" the chip and the same problem keeps happening. what should I do?

Basically, the laser cannot get the data off the disc. You will need to clean the laser with a cotton bud and retest. Failing that, replace the laser unit...

I cleaned the laser and the same thing keeps happening. I havent had a lock up in any other game besides god of war 1 and 2. the same thing happens when I try to use a backup copy of god of war, it makes really loud weird noises and refuses to load.
