I was taking apart the dreamcast i play games on to clear out the battery. I tilted it sideways to get a screw that fell inside not remembering that the GD unit isnt screwed down. The gd drive fell out of the system and ripped the ribbon cable most of the way through. Now the drive will just start spinning for about a second and stop.. it does the same thing with no cable at all so im sure thats the only problem. The DC i use for ripping has blown controller ports (thats how it gained the position) so i cant really use it. Im sure the thing only costs a dollar or two but I have no idea where to get it.
is the cable you are referring to the one which attaches to the laser sled assembly and slides with the sled as the laser reads in different positions on the track
also are you asking how to fix it or take apart or just where to find the material or parts

i checked vdo, gameconsolerepair, videogamerepair, lik-sang and a bunch of import shops and couldn't find em. they are like paper thin so im suprised they arent more common. you havea any idea where to find one?
i am thinking maybe it is a generic product that you might get at an electronics outlet, i don't think that the ribbon is proprietary
i will think about it and get back to you

I dunno... i havent seen any that looked like it. i was thinking if i couldnt get one i could cut an ultra 66/100 cable to be about an inch wide if the wires were the right spacing apart. i talked to the webmaster at GCR and he said he'd sell me one that they use for repairs for 15 which is much better than giving up a still working dreamcast.
