Hello,
I'd like to ask a couple of things: Does BF-2142 requires internet connection even to play the singleplayer mode?
And about the locked content: It is unlocked as I (my soldier) get promoted to higher ranks, right? But can I get theese promotions by playing offline (singleplayer)?
I'm asking this because I bought a legal copy of the game, get it installed on my PC, but was unable to play. I don't have any internet connection at home (yet), but the game requires the creation of an account at EA's servers prior to anything else.
I had to go to my girlfried's home (she has a dial-up connection) in order to actually play it.
And I'm concerned about this rank promotion matter because even when I get internet access at home, it will be dial-up. In other words: no multiplayer.
Regards
You can play offline so long as you've logged onto the server at least once on the computer.
However you have to be online for promotions or weapon unlocks regardless of whether your playing single player or not.

Thank's for the quick reply, Fraya.
So let's see if I got it right:
Can I get the promotions by playing singleplayer, but it only can be possible if I stay connected to the EA's servers during the play, right? So can my soldier's stats stay up to date in EA's records?
Or can I get theese promotions only in multiplayer?
Regards.
Unlocks and the like are only awarded in MP play.

Damn, is it true that you can only unlock those unlockable weapons and kits when you are playin online?
nah thats not really great, your enemy bots have this granado hehehehe i hear them saying it......
i have an internet connection, but i hate to play it online fighting or beig with laggers, specially quiters
i really want to play with this unlockable weapons....... and i love to play a game full of secrets, hidden and unlockables(it gives me thrill)
uhm please inform me if that is the only way i can unlock those weapons......

uhm well sorry for talking rude, i know that they really dont have the luxury of a high speed internet connection, but..... hope they really know their connection limitation, that they can ruin any game or battle,.... so thats why i hate lagger, its not because that they are lack of luxurious connection, because they dont care for the game of others even they ruining it......
sorry for being rude
BTW how about my 1st question?? hihihihihihihi
I hate BF with a vengeance, so Grumpy will answer you since he loves the stuff lol, from what ive read yep only unlockables are accessible once you connect online. I think you can play SP offline but to unlock stuff you have to go online. I think.
But also remember even someone with a fast conn can have bad connection days and lag. Even with a huge conn people can still lag.
And from what ive read its not much of an up or downstream you need to play BF online, bar the exception of 56k users who couldnt.
At the end of the day those people who lag (or btw it could be you thats lagging and making the others look like their lagging) have paid to play so you know its not a perfect world out there :P

Yep, I got a good laugh from that. :)
Believe me there are the days when I hate it with a vengeance too. :)
I played the Demo of 2142, didnt like it, then I went and hired the full game, still didnt like it so I didnt buy it.
I prefer Battlefield 2, 98% of the time it is a good game, the other 2% is when you get the total morons playing. ;)
As far as I am aware you cannot get the upgrades in Single player mode.
I havent played single player much tho, only enough to have a quick look at each map before I went online to play. Online really is the only way to play these types of games.
You can play in single player on the hardest difficulty level and it still is nowhere near the difficulty level of playing online!
And as far as connections go, my son and I both play at the same time from the same connection, and we dont have a problem with lag.
We do notice when someone comes into the game with a high ping though and then the game will stutter a bit til that person is kicked from the server.
And yes I do have a rather fast connection speed though. ;)

Does this really requires internet connection for playing single mode?

You need to be online with your computer once. Then you can play singleplayer in offline-mode.

I'm a newby with bf2142 but i still don't understand whether i need an internet connection every time i go on the game singleplayer or whether i only need to access the internet once, to register.
hey i seen that starforce said u can kill bots and pick up there stuff but it not letting me wat do i do?
@jewe
Yes as far as I am aware you should be able to pick up the dead bots kit in single player mode.
Go into your 'controls' settings and check which button is configured for 'Pick up Kit'. When you want to pick up a new kit stand over the kit with the cross hair on the kit, then press whatever button you have configured to pick up the kit.
As I dont play BF2142 I am presuming it works the same way as BF2, so the above should work.
And for those wanting to know if this game can be played in Single Player mode, yes it can but you have to connect to the net at least once. Once you have connected once, then you dont have to reconnect everytime you want to play single player.

Are you really? where the worlds coming to god. Next thing they introduce 'checkpoints' binding you to specific locations where you can use the content.
