The trick is done by placing the content of the Disk1 directory from your original DVD onto two DVD-Rs.
On the first DVD, put everthing except data4.cab and data5.cab.
On the second DVD, put everthing except data2.cab and data3.cab.
There is approx. 1 GB space left on the second DVD - enough room for any upcoming patches and fixes.
I've used the label of the original DVD for my discs, but I do not think, this is strictly neccessary.

This method works but i had to edit the autorun menu to quit after the "install" button is pressed because when i tried to install the game and swaped to the second disk the autorun menu stopped responding and windows was asking me to put the disk back inside, although both disks have the same volume name  .
Thge autorun stuff is not part of the disk1 folder. In my method, I omit the whole autorun related files. Imho autorun was one of the big mistakes M$ did with there OS design. It is my decision, what to run on my machine, not the decision of the guy who mastered the CD/DVD. This sh*t is already turned off on all computers I have access to.
Just place the files from the Disk1 folder to the root of the DVD and start Setup.exe by a convenient double-click.
...but i had to edit the autorun menu to quit after the "install" button is pressed.
How did you do that?

Using Demoshield 8 on one of the files on the bin folder ;) .You can find it at the download section of Macrovision's site

so i tried it out with my german version now...
same way, all files except data4 and 5 on first dvd and all files except 2 and 3 on second dvd...
asks for "DISK 3" during installation, therefor for the :drivename:\disk3 directory
so if you do not want to change it manually to disk1 (as my dirname on the second dvd was before) -
For the German Version
First DVD:
Copy all files to this dvd except disk1\data4.cab and disk1\data5.cab
Should give 4,05GB
Burn with a volume name you like
Second DVD
Copy all files to this dvd except disk1\data2.cab and disk1\data3.cab
rename the \disk1 directory in the folder root to \disk3
Should give 2,41GB
Burn with a volume name you like
---> Install from Disk1, Wizard will ask for Disk3 containing data4.cab during the installation - insert disk2 and continue - voila :) tested, works
Dark Messiah Of Might & Magic German.
Burn DVD 2 with folder-label "disk2" and the cab-files 3,4,5. All other files without folder-name-changing to DVD 1.
DVD-Label-Names doesn´t matter.
Result is a setup which asks for DISK 2 after installing all files from DVD 1.
Note: As the filesizes of other languages differ, this method may only work with the german release, as DVD 2 is 100% used.
Nice!

...i already explained a way to put german one on two discs... however your method will also work. i only put 4 and 5 on a seperate dvd, and as INSTALLSHIELD expects data4 in a directory called disk3 you have to name it disk3
with your method of course it looks for data3.cab - in a folder called disk2 ;)
i think its correct that you wont need all other files on the second dvd like we all did - but the space is and they are not big so why not ;)
To avoid the CRC Error on DVD2 do this:
DVD1:
Copy all files to this dvd except data4.cab and data5.cab from the Disk1 Directory
Burn with a volume name you like, I named mine DMOMMGNC1
DVD2:
Copy all files to this dvd except data2.cab and data3.cab from the Disk1 Directory
Now rename the Disk1 directory to Disk3.
Create a new Directory named Disk1. Now copy only the complete folder support from the Disk1 Directory on DVD1 in this folder.
DVD2 looks now like this :
\bin (4 Files)
\disk1 (1 Folder)
\disk3 (1 Folder and 17 Files)
in the Root of the Disk are 3 Files.
Burn with a volume name you like, I named mine DMOMMGNC2
Now the Installer will run without any Errors. Tested with the US Version, works fine. :D
This method works but i had to edit the autorun menu to quit after the "install" button is pressed because when i tried to install the game and swaped to the second disk the autorun menu stopped responding and windows was asking me to put the disk back inside, although both disks have the same volume name  .
Simply way to solve the autorun prob from DVD2, edit the autorun.inf file with note pad, change the value
"open=SCDAAutorun.exe" with "open=0"
work fine, have fun, tested with french version.
