I just got this game from my Canadian EB games. Wow, if you like HL2 then this is great....I went looking for a crack and I got some info that the demo .exe works as a crack ......BINGO! It works! I have finished the tutorial and it hasn't crashed yet. Fingers crossed!
Hope your right, but I can't believe that Ubisoft would have made such a mistake using the demo exe for the main game.

demo was buggy as hell and this executable prolly includes lots of new stuff/fixes. so using an outdated exe isn´t a good solution.
Well, so far it is working. I have completed a couple of levels and it hasn't crashed yet. CDkiller did you get the .exe?

anyone figured out how to split in on 2 dvd-5 yet? i could imagine that it works if you simply put data4 and data5.cab in disk1 dir on a seperate dvd in a directory named disk1. these installshield bitches always ask for another disk if the file isnt there where it should be. any1 tried yet?

Ok, the demo exe is "3 436 544 bytes" the original exe is "3 629 056 bytes", obviously there are differences between them. But could anyone with more tech-savvy than I, explain how the demo exe works as a nocd for the original?

you can't always go by the file size for differences, due to the possibility of compression being used and so on....

"maxi-image" not real image, so you neednt to know what files in the "maxi-image". In fact,no files in "maxi-image"
you can use Pr0t.St0p to run the game with this maxi-image

@ DABHAND...I find your remark about the Jamaican member probably being too stoned to read the forum rules pretty offensive to be honest and just typical of the regular idiots that frequent this forum including some of the moderators.
I find it offensive because I am married to a girl who is of Jamaican origin and in no way does she condone or use any kind of drugs that would get you "stoned". To assume that because he/she is Jamaican and uses drugs is just plain narrow minded even if you did mean it as a bit of fun or a joke. My wife's family are some of the nicest most pleasant human beings you will ever meet.

All of you people who are saying there are problems with using the demo mm.exe have no idea what you're talking about. I just spent the last three days playing through and completing the entire game with the demo executable.
There are no problems with NPC dialogue, missing content, or anything else for that matter. The demo .exe works perfectly fine.
@dazzashazza -> i think you're reading too much into things, and taking stuff personally that most likely was not intended to be directly aimed at you.. that and, the users location may/may not be true.. it can be set to anything.. look at barryb's for example 'in a house' (he may be in a house, me may be in a cave.. who knows).. and noone mentioned (from what i can see) your family or the statement "stoned, therefore must be jamaican..." it was more a reference at people not reading the rules etc which happens a lot on the forums... and was tongue-in-cheek, so i'd suggest next time, take a deep breath and think..

To emulate the german version with the maxi image you will need the original EXE from the UNCUT version.

You´re right. So we need the exe from the uncut version to get the german version running with the maxi image.

open the other, 7mb big archive from rapidshare and open the rar archive inside again (the other two files are the wrong versions, I dont know why they are included) and put these two files into the \mm\bin\ folder, replacing existing ones.
mount the maxi-image with DT and hide virtual drives with protstop. use procyon to start mm.exe. finally.... :D you can run it without your precious original DVDs and its even uncut now (but in english again)

nope, followed every instruction and when i try to open the game, nothing happends, but i do see it running in the background when i ctrl+alt+del.
I did everything as you said, but it won´t work. I get an error "Bitte legen Sie die korrekte DVD ein" even if I use protstop and pryc.
EDIT: When i disable my physical drives, nothing happens when i try to start the game. No error message, but the game doesnt start,too - nothing.
OK, i get it work now. But after playing the tutorial in the game, the game has extremly sound bugs and freezes, so that´s unplayable. Maybe the files in the bin folder doesnt work correctly with the german version.
Does someone has the same problems after playing the first level (tutorial) ?

erm you did take it personal, why else bring up your wife/girlfriend (cant remember which)... the barryb reference was pointing out that not everyones 'location' in the forum posts are true.. it was just an example.. ie: the person may not actually really be from jamaica...
nehows its going off topic, and really if you had an issue it should have been sorted out in pm...
Ok. I have the german version too and my porb is that the game crash at the moment where the Loading screen comes. Anny idea????

The below method worked for the US version as well.
1) Mount the Maxi-image from GCW in Dtools 4.6 (with all emu options on)
2)Run Prot Stop and Hide Virtual Drives.
3)Run the Procyon launcher and click mm.exe.
Works like a charm, and seems to stutter less than the demo.exe.

Detonation have released a STEAM crack, but looks like you need an additonal 350mb of files to get it to work with the retail game, not sure this would work with the German version though as I haven't got the game yet, let alone the german version.

This one worked for me. German version. The game is in English (chosen English during the installation) and uncut.
There seem to be an odd behavior with the Texture. I had to switch them to low quality to prevent the game to bug (sounds bug and very low FPS).
People reporting sounds bugs/freeze should try reducing the texture to low quality.

It works, but you have to something a other.
Do not take the exe from the 12mb file, take the Demo Exe, than it'il work.
It's English then, and uncut. You dont here voices, activate Subtitles ;)

I got the german version too.but it doesnt work anyway even if i use the demo exe.installed in english,mounted in daemontools 4.06(all emu options on),copied the files from the rapidshare upload,protstop activated and launched the game exe with the procyon launcher v7.26.it runs until it reaches the loading screen and then the game crashs...:confused:
Does backup version work online/LAN??? Does it need Steam??
I tried the european version (spanish one, I'm spanish, all that stuff..well, yeah) with the demo exe and it worked fine on single player ;)
Here are the files from DETONATION release, It does not work for me copy the files to the PROCYON release but the whole DETONATION release does not work for me i click the exe and after the movie's it go's back the the desktop but he i'm glad that the PROCYON release works fine for me :)

Yeah. You need Steam to buy, and then to run it. In fact, the game doesn't even seem to run in offline mode like most steam games can. The game actually loads, but then freezes during the title-screen loading because the game needs to natively access the net

i got the dtn files before they were removed and tested them with my german version - boots up but goes to desk right after the intro movies.
bierhuettl, you can play the game when you make an image with HIGH DPM @ Alchohol 120%
heres a small tutorial how i made the german version work.
1. Get an image with High DPM from the german version
2. Shut down you comp
3. Unhook all our optical drives
4. Boot up the comp again
5. Use daemon tools 4.0.6 and mount the image in the virtual drive
6. Play the game!
(7.) If you quit the game or it crashes during play and you want to start it again, you have to unmount and mount the image again in daemon tools otherwise you will get a message to put in the real DMOMM instead of a copy.
Note: Do not use any emulation options in daemon tools.
And please give feedback if it worked for you that way, i made it work at my and my brothers computer yet. So i guess if its not working for others its a hardware problem or you're doing something wrong :P

i made a 1x dpm alcohol image, but the problem is...
i got a notebook ;) cant unhook my physical drive
but i remember that in starforce times i didnt need to unhook the drive, games booted up with absolutely no changes in my system. i remember prince of persia two thrones - installed and started, simply mounted in dt.
dark messiah doesnt work this way unfortunately... tried to deactivate drive in system settings - used procyon loader, protstop, yasu dt hider... "please insert the original disc instead of a backup"
so... now? ;)
You're right, in starforce times it was possible to play games without unhooking the drives but at the moment the only known possible way to play this game is by unhooking the drive(s). So unfortunately i guess you have to wait until there is a working Fixed Exe for the german version or someone develops a program that makes it possible to hide the physical drives from this new copy protection.

well i tried some combinations of disabling drive / protstop / yasu / procyon.exe / emulation options and it indeed booted up one time, but i cannot reproduce how i did
i deactivated drive, reboot - emulation options off - didnt start. didnt even gave an error message, only short loading symbol and off
i unmounted and mounted it again, started yasu to hide the drive, tried it - no chance. started yasu again to reactivate - tried again and boom it started ;) but didnt work again. if i leave emu options OFF it doesnt even try to start. with on and some loader / hider combinations i always get "insert original instead of backup"
well well.. some say demo exe works, i've seen several demo exe files. had one with another logo (the DM logo instead of that strange sign) and this did not work. might try others i find - but i read it crashes on some places with these files. everyone says something different. i suggest a famous cracker crew gets the game and removes the protection ;)

If you used protstop and mounted the image before hiding the drives, re-mount the image after hiding and try starting the game again.
i just have to mount the image, and hiding the drives with protstop. nothing more. i haven't to unhook my drives
I didnt try with protstop, but i found out that if i mount the image and then unhook the drives i cant start the game because there appears the message that i have to put in the original disc instead of an image. Same if i run the game, quit and start it again, i first have to re-mount the image. That's why i asked if he mounted the image before hiding. But maybe protstop just can't hide his drive because of his mobo chipset, wouldn't be the first time. I got a Intel 865PE chipset.

So you just went to the hardware manager and disabled the optical drives instead of using protstop? Or did you try both already?

can anyone help me and guide me as to which files and method to use and how to get my german version working? and in english please. it would be GREATLY appreciated. ;) it works wit the original. but obviously, thats what we're trying to avoid here, is using the cd. With my own made mdf and your mds i only need yasu (or protstop, both works) to hide my drive and it starts. no plugging out / deactivating drives or whatever. just mount, hide, PLAY :)

Thats why you got the german version and the exe file is the one from the demo (US).
So it can't work because there are big differences in those versions.
Try some other hiding tools or just hook off your optical drives to play.

wtf.... i deinstalled it and installed it again and used the files of the 12mb rar-file again. now i can see the intro (same thing) but now i get kicked back to desktop WITHOUT an error message...

had that too with the detonation files.
i suggest you make an image again with normal dpm on fullspeed (doesnt matter) and replace the dmommngnc.mds with the rapidshare file
then mount, protstop, play!

Myrmiand, make an image with alcohol - uncheck dpm if it doesnt work with this setting, does not matter. in any way you get a mdf and a mds file - lets you replace the mds file with the uploaded one and there is your dpm data ;)

ok... same thing here. It is the german release but it has german and english options when isntalling. So i have downloaded all the files from rapidshare and i can get it to work to an extent where i see the intro and then get kicked back to desktop (no errors) - does anyone have a resolution to this problem please? :cool:

SOLUTION that worked for me:
1) install the game ENGLISH
2) Get the mm.exe from rapidshare (page 1, by steve).
3) use dt 4.06 and maxi image + the high dpm file from rapid share (dno what page)
4) and i used protstop too. (dno if necessary)
do not use procyon!

Yes I can appreciate that but surely if you truly want to play this game it would be a lot easier just to use the original disc to play, for now.
With all the hours/days you have wasted trying to get it to work you could have finished the game by now. :p

hmmmm I finished downloading the DETONATION version.....however if u try to extract the folder, u wont get an iso file but the whole game with its sub-folders without any registration-entries in windows .....maybe thats why it works for me without any problems concerning to Securerom ....just clicking the mm.exe and the game proceeds .....game is completely in english as the into reveals ....but i didnt test the gore level yet ...but soon ;))))))

I have strange bug after I installed mm.exe file.
I installed game from originall cd, everything was ok of course than I quited game, downloaded demo file from rapidshare and copied it to game folder. Game started without any starforce disablers etc. but when loading screen appears, on 60% loading bar stopes and microsux error window appears with message "Memory can not be read....blablabla" and it crashes. I said nevermind, I will use originall cd but when I reinstalled game it happens again! :eek: I tried everything, deleted manually game folder after uninstall, nothing helped. I can't find where game stores info about game configuration, I searched in Documents and Settings folder but nothing there. When I reinstall game all game configuration settings are the same like I set it after first time. Maybe this is problem, if anyone know where it stores this info...
Any solutions ? Don't want to reinstall windows :(

My english is not good but I will write again: it happens when I press NEW GAME in menu, level is loading, loading bar stops at 60% and after few seconds it freezes. When I press any button error window appear (the one which you posted above) and game crashes. It happens with originall disc too.

I install the german version of DM (with the german language), then i use the 2 files and the description i told you before. and of course i use the miniimage, but not the demo.exe.

Maybe those files only work, when german language is installed? Cuz I installed the english language...could that be the problem?

@ chielzor: I had the same error when trying to unpack WildGunMan's archive...right-click on it and open it in WinRAR...than you can just drag'n'drop those files out of the archive...

I first unzipped the wildgunman.rar into a temp-directory, then copied all files to the DM-directories (First made a backup).
I have the German version, German language. Everything works fine, also uncut-features.

Try this:
reinstall the game with english language, dont apply the patch !!!
go to the gamedirectory\mm\bin and save the 2 original files.
apply the patch and overwrite the two files from the patch with the saved original files in the gamedirectory\mm\bin.
try this and report it to me...

It's funny but I have originall and CAN'T play the game! Still have the same problem with errors and don't want to reinstall XP.
I can't install german language of the game so I think that I don't have german version. I downloaded files from GCW and the game still crashes. Should it work with those files if I have non german version of the game ?

When I started game first time I chose 1280x960 resolution, in this resoultion I play games. Everything was ok till I quited game, than my nightmare started. I downloaded WildGun file from rapidshare, installed it but game crashed, I downloaded uncut files from GCW but crashed again. Than I changed resolution from 1280x960 on 1024 and game started without any problems. I can't explain why. If you set 1024 resolution try change it to lower. When game starts just change resolution to higher. I am not good in this all technical problems but it works on my pc.
I know it sounds weird but it works.

I did test again. I reinstalled game, copied image file from GCW, mounted it, run protstop, than in game settings I changed resolution to 1024 and game started without any problems! I am not sure but maybe you have to run game in difrent resolution that your desktop is, didn't check it (my is 1280x960).
I didn't use WildGun files this time, only image file from GCW and protstop.
Small update: I changed resolution to 1024, saved settings than quited game. Started again, pressed new game and after 60% of loading message error window poped up. Quited game, started again, changed resolution to 1280 and......game started without any errors.
My conclusion: you should try start the game with difrent resolution when you quit it.

To start, thank you Wildgunman for fixing it.
I installed it in english and when i copied the files it did start.
First time loading new game it crashed, then I read something about "resolution lowering", which worked and i finished the prologue without problems.
now I came in Stonehelm city, where it crashed just after the ballista part.
When I try to load game now, it crashes in the ~middle~ of the bar.
Crashing=Returning to desktop without a message.
I tried to lower my settings again but that doesnt work either.
P4 3.2 ghz, 1 gb ram, ati radeon 740XL should be able to handle it right?
So I dont know if this is the patch, maybe the language or, my pc's hardware/drivers?

I succeed in extracting all data needed to make a standalone version of Dark Messiah Mutliplayer.
I can make a server, dedicated server, the game run perfectly when i create a server.
BUT
yes, i have another pb that i can't understand, on a local network the Dark messiah Client refuse to see the server, even if try add the server mannually.
I precise that the 2 games are the same on the lan. (PC1 and PC2)
i tried to obtain response from the server/dedicated server(PC1) by using netsh on WinXp, and it answer.
I'm very near to make a solution (as the game work perfectly on the PC1 server), i think the pb is that the client (PC2) use a wrong api to detect/connect on the server.
If someone can help me on this :confused:

Now or when it's done, tell everyone the way so we can try too. Please.
Solutions: "even if try add the server mannually" means "by putting directly the IP"?? if not, try using the LAN IP of the server (192.168.X.XXX).
Disconnect all firewalls antivirus antispies AND OF COURSE WINDOWS SP1-2 FIREWALL!!!. There are also some other anti-sharing/gamin' options commonly activated on windows configuration, so try to find them (i.e. "Easy share system" or sth llike that on Folder Options/Tools) and turn them off.
If not connect both PCs directly via crossed wire (cable cruzado en castellano) or Ad-hoc on wireless, so you don't have any intermediate such as router's internal firewall.
In any case, if you cannot just tell me how you did it and I'll try it myself.

Hi all,
it's a quiet easy to make a standalone version of Dark Messiah.
just make sure that you chose multiplayer install, and you install steam just for this (because the installer will copy the .GCF in the steamapps folder).
And now you just have to find a tool named GCFScape and extract one by one the .gfc files in the steamapps folder to another common folder of your choice.
there's an mm.exe (64Kb) don't worry it's weird but normal. launch the multiplayer game with this mm.exe
The fact is, that you may have some gcf files incomplete (like me, so error message that some file is missing. You can see this with GCFscape that will greyed out incomplete file in the GFC file listing) the only thing which probably fix it will be to download the complete one's by steam.
And no, i find for many days to have the MM_MP_Materials.gcf complete (Multiplayer interface files missing) , and i find a solution, i'm not sure it works at 100% but it works for me. Just make a repair with the Dark Messiah installer and you will have the correct gcf files in the steam folder.
that's really all i do, i think steam client.dll or serverbrowser.dll is still corrupt a s i san't browse lan server even if i add the ip manually.
Of course, there's no Firewall active (windows, third party), no antivirus, just a routeur which internal firewall is deactivated too. i have no connection problem because i tried in the same configuration to play doom3 on lan, and it works whand adding ip. I would make the test with a cross-cable but as doom3 works...
Other thing, the mm_mp_server is sure incomplete, and the first time i tried to launch the game and make a server, i hadn't need it. but if you need just start steam and download free the dedicated server in the steam tools menu. you'll have a mm_mp_server GCF file complete ^^ easy isn't it ?
So, if people can't try to get where i am, i think there's always better than me, to make a solution to that damned client connection pb... :s

Ive played v1.0 without probs with prot.stop 1.0 but after installing patch
1.1 it isnt working anymore.
And i need this patch cause its bugged like hell for me :mad: because
ive gut an directx 8.1 graphics card.

I got it working just fine doing the below things. I bet the people having trouble are using the bender maxi image.
Don't use that one.
Use the poseden one. It works like a charm with the below steps. I have the US version and it even works with that one.
And I think you have to do it in the order below. Do what the first quote says. Then do what the second quote says to get it working. Also, SR7.Stop also worked, even though it's a little older.

special thanks to Isis192 for the links (which indeed contain all the files you need!) and poseden for the maxi-image. its really working!! (even if you "see" nothing...)
here is how to go:
install "Dark Messiah" - german (cut) version - from your original DVDs. then replace the mm.exe with the one from the 12mb big file archive hosted at rapidshare (see above). then replace the \bin\ folder and all files inside with the bin folder from the 12mb archive.
open the other, 7mb big archive from rapidshare and open the rar archive inside again (the other two files are the wrong versions, I dont know why they are included) and put these two files into the \mm\bin\ folder, replacing existing ones.
mount the maxi-image with DT and hide virtual drives with protstop. use procyon to start mm.exe. finally.... you can run it without your precious original DVDs and its even uncut now (but in english again)
The maxi-image is STILL availible at GCW, but not on all mirrors! try ALL mirrors until you find it! (actually its on Europe mirror 3)

The below method worked for the US version as well.
1) Mount the Maxi-image from GCW in Dtools 4.6 (with all emu options on)
2)Run Prot Stop and Hide Virtual Drives.
3)Run the Procyon launcher and click mm.exe.
Works like a charm, and seems to stutter less than the demo.exe.

Could any kind soul upload WildGunMan's 1.1 patch to any place other then rapidshare?
Always have lots of problems downloading from that site. Even tried using proxies but after spending sometime finding one that seems to work, i was not able to see the "validation key" needed to download from rapidshare. Very frustrating

RapGet doesn't work for me(at least for rapidshare). Merely clocks up number of "Errors" when i leave it to run without proxy. Runs it using one of the working proxies i found earlier (but cant get the validation key) and i get a "Link corrupted" status. Another part of my life lost trying to get rapidshare to work.
Now could someone kindly upload the WildGunMan 1.1 patch to someplace other then rapidshare??

I play self Dark Messiah and my Patch is full working, without errors.
use the latest forceware/ catalyst drivers.
Do not use any Trainers, the game will crash !
sure, it is the demo.exe but not only...and i wait self for a real no cd patch, but nothing available at this time...

You do know that once you copy the demo exe and use that you don't play with any patched info. So if youre gonna use the stupid demo exe (which is retarded in the first place) you may as well not even patch it. lol man some ppl are really dumb :D

5.rename the key every time you reboot or make a .reg file where you have to klick and the virtual drive is automtically renamed to G.h: ;)

use the newest forceware/ catalyst versions, and sp2 for xp and the newest updates.
Change in the game menu the Texture Quality to medium.
i self use XP Pro x64 SP1 and it work great.

I get it working by using Alcohol for the virtual drive in place of Daemon-tools.
I disable daemon-tools and mounted the image on the Alcohol virtual drive.
Launch Yasu and start the game.

i've just used the patch,overwriting the original files (BACKUP,those files!)
with the ones in the archive,
i think al least the "exe" should work,because it is the demo exe,
from the international demo (???)

I installed the 93.71 driver and started getting the mm.exe crashes in DM... I rolled back to like 91.52 and all was well... I'm using a 6800 Go in a Dell laptop.. I was getting stuttering video in DM (never used to happen prior to using 93.71). I only installed 93.71 because it was rec'md for NWN2.
Also, when looking at the overclocking screen for the drivers, the drivers had overclocked my card to a crazy level by default.... everyone using this driver should check it out....
DM runs great with 91.52... NWN2 runs decent, with settings turned down a bit.
Anyone getting the MM.EXE crash and or DirectX9 crashes in DM should definately not be using 93.71.

And using Pr0t.St0p+Loader doesn't work anymore.
So, any ideas except using original disk? (or not patching, and I hate not patching a game).

I was getting a mm.exe crash about 3/4 into the loading bar before the main menu would come up. The video would also stutter..
Granted i'm using a 6800 Go and I was using a modded inf to load 93.71, but it has always worked in the past... aside from that, i've been reading forums all over and lots of people seem to be getting the mm.exe crash and/or the DX9 Error/Crash. Rolling back from 93.71 definately fixed it for me. The has to be a common thread.

Yep, did a full uninstall and reinstall of 93.71. It seems like the driver was detecting my 6800 Go as a 6800 Ultra. It seems to work for some people.

I think your CPU and RAM is good but your bottleneck is the GPU. Even with my 6800Ultra with 256MB of GDDR3, I run Dark Messiah at 1024x768 with a little bit of eye candy to avoid the stuttering. Time to upgrade your GPU, my friend.

Now I'm really confused.
Did a reinstall and now the damn thing works again.
I got it to work with Maxi Image+YASU+Alcohol 120%.
So.....I'm not sure what to think. It seems to be a matter of luck if you get it working because besides switching from Daemon Tools to Alcohol, I didn't do anything different.

@Daimao: ASCII art (monospaced DOS font, multiple spaces) doesn't look good on a webpage (proportional ANSI font, spaces are consensed)...

If I did have it I certainly would have uploaded it to GCW and also would have given you all a link to download it untill it appeared on GCW. ;)
