i get like 15 emails a day about this subject and so i am posting the settings for clonecd that i use on my HP 8200 external for self boot and non self boot i use the same settings:
i am not guaranteeing success with these settings if you are not using an 8200 external USB burner so use at your own risk of creating a coaster:

make sure that you choose the disc to disc backup option in the main menu (icon menu)

in the read tab
-read speed whatever you want i do all mine at full speed on a 50x cdrom drive
-check fast error skip
-check don't report read errors (they are supposed to be there)

in the write tab
-check don't repair subchannel data
-check perform laser power calibration
-check always close last session

that is it,..... i have tested all of my games or backed them up from back ups and i have over 50 right now so they work for me... i stress for ME.

therefore if a disc is small enough in data like 600mb and you want to do a test burn on an RW disc (that is what i did the first time) and verify that the files are all there and readable by your cdrom drive.

use good media that is one major thing (good is verbatim blues az0 technology) never had a coaster with it. Maybe just good compatability with my burner.

oh also i have all my other applications running in the backround so it makes no difference (i have well over 256mb of ram , with a good fast large hard drive and high end processor)
