View Full Version : Mod chip out next week (rumour)
A friend tells me that a local shop (Wakefield, UK) will be selling 360 mod chips next week?
Is this a rumour or fact???
It's a rumour. The security system of the 360 is nowhere near being hacked right now. The only thing we can do is flash the DVD Drive to allow the use of backups and even that only currently applies to the Samsung.
He's either going to offer this flashing service, or he's reading far too much into the Devil360.com 06/06/06 thing ;)
It'll be one of those two - place yer bets please :)

There is going to be a replacement flash chip that you solder to the dvd-drive. It will allow you to switch between the 2 firmwares. That is as far as "modchips" wil go for the 360 any time soon.

That has aldready been stopped by microsoft using epoxy glue over the chip on the DVD-drive, thus covering the easy solderpoints. sure it can still be done but will require a lot more soldering.

Lol yah, there is a little irony in it, being Microsoft giving a physical patch (and their past of "patches").
However, alternative points were already released. I agree that this is definately not going to be for the average person. Given the work involved in both backing up and soldering all those tiny pin points, I personally don't even think the thing is worth it. I have never hotswaped and am not about to start. When I hear "hotswap", I think "ghetto".
lol theire is nothing dangerous about hotswap it just means that when system is booted with for example an sata hardisk or sata dvdrom you must pull that sata cable out and put the xbox360 dvdrom drive sata cable in easy as it sounds.

Only modifies the DVD drive's firmware. It's ok, but games are a bitch to backup.
Yeah games requires some work in order to create a backup. I'm on Extreme 2.0 firmware for Hitachi's, so its easier then before but its still pain... :\
Whats this USB device about?

Making it easier to connect the xbox DVD-drive to your PC in order to extract SS, backup games and so on.
