I have a CD/DVD burner/reader and a CD/DVD reader. Can anyone please tell me how to unplug them?

Open up your box (turn it off first) and remove the cables that enter the back of your drives;)

!!!Dont unplug your boot drive!!!

If they're both connected to the same IDE interface, just disable it in bios.
If you do unplug them, only unplug the power plug, constant pulling on the IDE cable will damage it.

They may seem a little tight and stuck in there for good just make sure to get a good grip on the plastic casnig not the wires when you pull or you will damage the lead

Hi,

is it possible to bulid a switch, so that u can disable the power supply for the Cd Drive from outside your PC?

As far as I learned it is important that the power supply is cut, then the system is not able to find the drive, is that right?

I ask this coz I'm messing with the Star Force protection...

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to leave a switched off device still connected to the motherboard via the IDE cable... You'd rather want to disconnect the IDE cable. However, mounting a switch onto it is... khm... troublesome! ;)

heh agreed. You won't believe the trouble a loose molex connector could bring when the drive is still connected (i know). And yes, a switch is rather dangerous if you don't already know exactly what your doing. I would just go ahead and unplug the IDE cable. If you damage the cable, owell buy another one, they're incredibly easy to replace.

What's the best place to unplug the cable from?

Should I unplug the IDE cable from the back of the cd drive or from the mainboard ?

doesn't really matter... back of the cd/dvd drive is probably better as its usually easier to access.. the end result is the same.. however you might have issues if the cd/dvd drive is MASTER and other drives are on the same ide cable as SLAVES...

I plan to unplug both of them (in my case), that's why I'm asking.

well, experiment, if it boots you're on the right track, if it doesnt, reconnect and proceed with the trial and error phase...
