1) Copy the whole "Install Disc" to a temp folder #1
(you may delete the DirectX 6.1 and the Yamaha MIDI synthetizer if you don't need it)
2)Copy the files from all the other disc into a separate temp folder #2
You should have these files now : DISCX.pak , DISCX (X = 1,2,3,4) , FIELD.FI , FIELD.FL , FIELD.FS and FIELD2.FS
(FIELD.FS, FIELD.FI and FIELD.FL are the same on all CDs so you only need to extract it once)
3) Compress all those files into a SFX archive or an installer if you want and move it to the temp folder #1 (delete temp folder #2)
4) Create a subfolder in the temp folder #1 where you can put the 1.02 crâcked update and other things if you like
(in your temp folder #1 you should have now :
The files of the Install Disc, the SFX/Installer archive and the Updates subfolder)
5) Burn the content of the temp folder #1 onto a DVD and name it whatever you like

To PLAY :

Start Setup.exe and also install the optional Game Data when prompted
Then start your SFX/installer archive and install it to the main FF8 folder
Update to 1.02

In your registry you will need to go to the following key :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc\FINAL FANTASY VIII\1.00
Change "DataDrive" to the same as "App Path"

Delete DISC2, DISC3 and DISC4 (2 KB each)
You will need to change DISC1 to the disc your currently playing

(-> If you start a new game leave it as DISC1,
If you are prompted to insert DISC2, save your game, exit FF8 and rename DISC1 to DISC2)

could someone please make a script or something that goes to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc\FINAL FANTASY VIII\1.00

and automatically change "DataDrive" to the same as "App Path" ?

Thanks

This is easy, simply create a new textfile and have it look like this:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc\FINAL FANTASY VIII\1.00]

"Datadrive"="entry"

And save the file as yourname.reg

Where entry obviously is what you refer to as 'the same as "App Path".
And 'yourname' can be anything.

If you're going to create an SFX file anyway you might as well include this file, and have it run as soon as the self-extracting is done. Not sure if this can be done with any zip program but I know WinRAR can do this. Just browse the options.

I've done this process exactly as it's written, but I still cannot play the game. When I select "New Game" I keep getting the wrong disc screen.

I think it may be something in the order in which I used the cracks? I'm trying to run the English PC version. I have Spawn's Spanish crack, a crack by ThUquay that creates a new exe titled "FF8B" and the 1.0 and 1.2 updates.

When I run the FF8B app, I don't get the wrong disc screen, only insert disc 1.

Any help?

You cant use Spanish cracks on an English version ...

You first have to update the untouched 1.00 Exe file then apply the necessary cracks

Don't be such a reallazymofo, contact the publisher and ask for a replacement. (Oh, and read the forum rules!)

One note Grumpy, one of the disks is a mixed mode cd (i believe it is Game disk 3) which contains an audio track.

it is common for ps1 format but are you sure it's the same for the pc game?

That is true. Install + Game 1-4 (Game disk 3).
The redbook provdies the backdrop during one special cinematic.

Haven't tried the method though.
