Please help crystal chips installs

Hi ive been giving 2 slim lines to chip for friends although i haven't chipped for a while i did loads of messiahs on the older ps2's and i am very confident soldering and chip fitting.
But this problem is doing my head in i had 3 crystal chips ive tried all 3 in both ps2's and i keep getting the same thing the cd with the new firmware loads and the firmware upgrades no problem but when i try and boot a dvd backup it go's to boot and then just stays on a black screen and trys to read the disc.
Its not a media issue as ive tried a backup burnt at 1X on ritek g05 discs and still the same yet it will read dvd movie burnt on the same discs at 8X both also read original games.
Ive check everything over time and time again and tried all 3 chips in both ps2's and the same thing if the chips taking the firmware upgrade and booting the firmware cd everything must be fine i just can't figure it out please can somebody help thanks very much

crystal chip with crystal chip firmware cannot read backups..
You need to find the hacked firmware and flash with that... it allows for backups to be run!

Why do they sell the chips then ? the fella i bought them off ive contacted him and he never mentioned anything about hacked firmware he just said he didn't know what the problem might be.
Please tell me more what is the firmware on the site for if it dosen't play back ups ?.

ya its weird.. i believe that there firmware allows for homebrew but not backups.. i even found with their firmware it was difficult and took a long time to read even oringals..
Check out ps2-scene.com for the hacked firmware.. i dont think i have it on my pute anymore!

I havent tested this so i cannot garentee it or anything..

Can't believe the fella who sells pre modded consoles and stacks of different chips didn't know about this its a strange world we live in init.

**** ive def been away from this game to long , im still blaming the muppet who sells the chips though for not telling me i mean who reads small print , you get the chip download the diagrams and install don't you hehe :eek: .

People are still getting confused by this trend? The top 3 chips are all like this with the exeption of the MI which is sold in a "homebrew" and "back-up" version. Its simple to understand ... look at it like this. The xbox chips do not come with a flash bios that will allow you to do anything other then boot Linux on your Xbox. Think about it ... you will get the drift ;)

other than booting a backup, there any way to know what BIOS is flashed into the a chip? I got my PS2 done with crystal 2, but it booted a backup with thier own BIOS still installed. I just wanna make sure the hacked BIOS installed so I dont burn out my PS2.

IIRC, there is a section in one of the menus which tells you the info about the BM and BIOS installed.

If backups boot, then obviously the hacked BIOS is installed so don't worry about it. Standard CC chips out-of-the-box do NOT boot backups. If yours does, then it's had the hacked BIOS installed at some point by somebody...
