when a xbox goes online on XBL. then upgrades the hdd and gets on XBL again and gets banned, can a new purchased xbox with the hdd used in the first one ban the new xbox as well sense XBL will detect that the hdd was already installed in an xbox that has already been banned?

Most likely. MS bans HDD keys. Swapping xbox's won't change the key. There are utilities to change the HDD keys, however, you would need one from an xbox that has never and will never go online. Your eeprom may also be banned as well.

so ur sayin quall that even with a new xbox it wont go online if it uses the banned upgraded hdd? the only way is if the new xbox gets upgraded with a new hdd before going to live right?

Thing is that XBL uses a combination of EEPROM and HDD key.
If youre xbox has been regged to XBL it has your EEPROM number and your current HDD key. Lets say you switch to a bigger HDD after you've been playing with your original disc. Then XBL will detect a new HDD key and probably ban you as you have tampered with your xbox.

But if your xbox never has been connected to live then you can change the HDD first and then go to live. Thus registering your larger HDD with your EEPROM.

On the other hand I prefer Xlink Kai or similar as they are free. Don't cares if you are using a larger hdd or has upgraded the hdd. Most things will do but still use your original games... :)

Indeed. So, you'd have to take the key from the HDD of the new xbox (that has never been online), and replace your banned upgrade HDD one with it.

i thought i would be able to save my friend some cash by just changing the banned hdd with a new hdd on his xbox. it turns out that might as well just get everything again..lol. a new xbox+hdd=no spending money for two weeks fo him..haha.
