View Full Version : Aliens vs Predator Gold: how to skip Music CD check on install?

Title says it all... Is it possible? Game insists on inserting its Music CD (CD2) during install - without doing this it quits and game cannot be installed. (CD1 is normal computer data CD with game setup files.) This Music CD is NOT really needed for game to install and function. How to skip that check?

thanks for replies!

Hi czadd,

It's pretty simple: you install a no-CD patch. ;) I'm running AvP Gold without any CD. And when I wanna listen to the listen while playing, I mount the image of CD2. ;) If you're interested, E-mail me. (But isn't the no_CD patch available on one of the sites listed in the respective forum sticky?!)

First I have to *install* the game from CD (or CD image) - and I can't because at the beginning of *installation* process installer asks to insert this music CD into the drive. When CD verification fails (no CD inserted or some other Audio CD) you can't proceed and can only abort installation.

So what I'm looking for is cracked installer or some dummy Audio CD mini-image which will fool the installer into thinking that AvP Gold "Music CD" (CD 2) is inserted.

(btw my AvP Gold Music CD got lost and I wanted to replay AvP Gold after a few years and I can't :().

Anyone?

Joe Forster/STA: do you have to insert AvP Gold "Music CD" into the drive when installing the game? Maybe you have a version which doesn't ask for it?

One more thing: does this game (Gold edition, specifically) work fine in WXP? I've heard that there are problems running AvP1 (not Gold) in WXP.

And, were there any patches for AvP Gold released (I mean official patches with bug fixes etc)?

Hi czadd,

I defiinitely have a no-CD installed, as AvP Gold does not ask for CD2. Again, E-mail me if you're interested.

Even during install? Do you install it at all? Are you sure you have original 2-CD AvP Gold Edition? 1st CD - data, 2nd CD - Audio/Music CD?

ps could you up your no-cd fix to rapidshare.de? Thanks!

Hi czadd,

Apparently, I did a no-CD patch for AvP Gold myself, see http://66.79.179.19/avp.htm (that's GameFix, GCW doesn't carry no-CD patches for this game!) ... ;) Damn, that was three years ago! ;)

Hey czadd,

I'm awfully sorry, I haven't been reading your posts carefully enough. I understand that you can't even install the game... Errr, I'm not sure how I can help you. Again, contact me via E-mail... (No, I don't bother with installing games more than once. I make rips of them, apply all official updates, addons and third-party no-CD patches continuously, RAR them up and archive them onto a large hard disk.)

Would like to know myself! I have wanted it for several years, but by the time I could get a copy I was told conflicting news on whether it works or not. No way will I buy a game that might or might not work, so any info on this would help...

BTW, the music CD, it's redbook audio right? Might buy it just for that if the music is good. I collect all sorts of game music, game CD or OST CD, doesn't matter to me! ;)

I dunno but why not just use the audio cd once to install then use a crack to play without.

Surely thats not that bad?

DABhand, what I didn't understand first either was that czadd doesn't have CD2 of the game anymore...

ok, Music CD found - installation successful :)!

yes, it's redbook audio CD (15 Tracks).

to confirm: AvP GOLD works fine in WXP (very fast! and stable so far)

btw: AvP GOLD is STILL a great game - highly recommend it!

Thanks for all the replies, folks!

I have only played the sequel. Is AvP Gold anything like it, better, worse?

Oh well, I see this cheap everywhere, guess it's time to buy a copy! ;)

Its not as good as AVP2 imho.

Oh a missing cd :P Didnt see that part.

But could he not have tried a different audio cd? :P Which is kinda out of the question now, since he found his cd lol

Hi guys,

If you're into nicer graphics, you'll prefer AvP2...

But, if you're into more frightening and claustrophobic atmosphere, you'll definitely like AvP better! The limited number of saves along with higher difficulty levels makes the game really hard to complete. Also, put a few sanitary napkins into your pants; at some moments, you'll need it! :D

Nope, installer checks the audio cd carefully but you can use any of the audio cd from AVP or AVP Gold, they are the same as far as I remember. ;)
