Question

Have got a packard bell laptop easy one silver, HAve got win XP on it, but it's all gone corrupt and am having major problems with it. What i want to do is format the drive and reload my win xp on it.

The problem is i can't seem to be able to get to the command prompt, from there i am happy. As it has already got xp on it i assume that it will load the drivers for the cd at boot, am i wrong?

Has anyone got any ideas

MAny thanks in anticipation

Yes you are wrong.
The WinXP install cd is bootable, therefore place it in your drive, make sure your bios is set to boot to cdrom first and turn it on.

Will that enable me to get to the windows command prompt c: as i will need to format the drive first before procedding??

Quick question as am off to work

Cheers

P.s. think bios is set to hdd as primary then cd secondary, can hit f2 to boot from cd but then only allows me to install win xp over my old copy and not wipe and start again

You should have an option in the install routine that allows you to delete and recreate your current C: partition. The formatting will then be done during the install.

Cheers mate but the only option i get are 2 repair installation or overwrite windows with a new copy. I want to format drive and start again, i know you used to be able to get to the command prompt then go for format c: using either cd or floppy. Just can't seem to get tot the command prompt
