View Full Version : upgrading my vid card
im upgrading to a ati readeon x800 pro and it says a 300w power supply it recomended but i only have 250w will that be ok or should i buy a 300w power supply? if i should get a new power supply then what brand it recomended?
for the price they are
get a 400w for future upgrades, about the brand... i dont think it really matters that much
Luciel is right man.i got a 500Watt and don't have anything....just a 5700 a dvd a dvd-r and a cd-r
Becareful with which motherboard you have the MSI KM4M-V is not nice with powerful PSU's.
Ive seen one with a 600W frying a 2.8XP CPU because of the extra wattage available.
400W though is a safe bet at least.
even a 300W will be fine with that card, just because it says it needs a 300W doesnt mean it will use it all, some Geforce FX cards say 350-450W needed but ive had machines running fine and smooth on 300W PSU's.
i ordered a 430w supply from newegg, i also decided to go with a nvidia 6800
and yet another happy ending ;) :D

Yes indeed good investment.. I have a 6600 GT PCI-E.. And bang for the buck that thing beats all cards (in that range). The 6800 should keep you on top for quite awhile. Good job snakey. I hope you enjoy it.
