Hi, I am thinking of getting the Freecom External Classic USB DVDRW Drive, so that I may create backups of my PS2 games; since they often end up breaking and being scratched ;) .

Can anyone here please tell me if the Freecom External Classic USB DVDRW Drive, is good for writing DVDs and more specifically creating PS2 game backups? for example the image files.

*I am not sure if this is in the right thread, I throught it would be either in this Hardware thread or the PS2 games thread, so if in wrong thread, sorry, my mistake.*

Please reply back ASAP
Thanks in advance for your help

This is a fine place to post this.

To be honest, you'd be better off with an internal writer. Something like the new NEC3520A would be a very good move. :)

P.S: As you're in the UK, SVP (http://www.svp.co.uk) is a great place to buy:

This is the product code: {HA 4128}

thanks for the reply, and yea I am in the UK, noticed you are as well.

I thought I would be better off with an internal writer, but the reason why I want an external one is because I have a laptop, and will need to connect the DVD RW via USB.

So having known that I need to have an external DVD RW, do you think the FREECOM Classic DVD+-R/RW 16x Double Layer USB2, is a good DVD writer for backing up my PS2 games as well as DVD's in general?

Here is the link that I will most probably buy it from:

Also, do you know if it is possible to buy and burn DVD9 disc's? and with this DVD RW?

Thanks in advance

Yes, you can indeed burn to dual layer discs with that burner. As it is USB2, it should also be OK. I don't have any personal experiennces with it so I can't comment further, but it seems OK - and it is 16x too afterall :)

eBuyer.co.uk may be cheaper than there though if they stock the drive...

OK great, thanks for the help friend, you've said all the right words :D , although you may not have any other experiences, thank you for your help.

By the way, I am a Man United fan, just thought I would let you know...

Next on the list is to get my PS2 sorted.

Thanks again
