My friend has a Pioneer 107 dvd burner which has just given him the error message "power calibration error"! Does anybody know if this means his lasor has stopped working? He says it still reads but will no longer write?

Thanks ;)

It does not necessarily mean that the laser is dead. I also had this problem once or twice with my old drive.
It may have several reasons, e.g. bad media, aspi problems, firmware, dirty lens or a nero problem, just to mention a few.

Hope he gets it sorted......Because if it is the lens, most lens cleaners will not do the job and you have to open the drive to get it cleaned properly....not a funny thing if are not experienced. But try other things first....

Well, you have heard from him, cos he is typing all the stuff I tell him. You know, I am far too old to even see any keys on the keyboard :)
Smithers is my personal nurse...and my slave, of course.....

Monty, my friend thanks you very much, it turns out he had 4 bad discs in the middle of his spindle! All seems to be working well now. :)
