View Full Version : Before I take the HDD plunge...

I've been looking around the Net and local stores for a suitable HDD for a V7 PAL.

As far as I can tell, the most sensible buy for me is a Maxtor 80 GB (would've settled for a 120 GB, except I'm not too good at patching/installing it) with HD Loader installer.

This is somewhat of an investment for me (I don't exactly print money), and I'd like some advice on which HDD is suitable for me.

Also, I've heard that the new "slim" PS2's don't support HDD's, but can use USB(?) HDD's. If I were to get a conventional "slot-in" HDD for older PS2, will it be compatible for a "slim" PS2 should I decide to upgrade to one (or rather downgrade, considering all the bad reviews I've heard.)

FYI: My PS2 is a V7 PAL, and not getting any younger.

Thanks for any and all advice, recommendations and tips on HDD's.

I use the 80GB Maxtor you refer to - ultra quiet and FAST! It's the perfect compliment to a V7 (which I have too) :)

You can't go wrong with it. I don't know much about the situation with the V12 and the HDD - but v12s suck anyway :p

Well since v12 usb ports are still the old USB 1.1 and not USB 2.0 your transfer rates will suck. At least thats what Ive read.

A million thanks for for the advice, guys. Hopefully I can find the time to purchase it within next month.

Probably be back for more questions on installation and downloading the games onto the HDD (being the confessed tech-klutz I am, you mostly count on it :o )

lol. You won't regret buying a HDD for your PS2 - believe me :)

I wouldn't swap mine for nothing.... well, maybe a Mini Cooper S but that's another story ;)
