View Full Version : NVidia Graphic Driver Problem
I was away for some days, because of i bought a new PC.
My new machine is:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Gigabyte K8NS Ultra-939 (Mainboard)
2x 512 MB (DualChannel)
NEC 3500 (DL DVD-Burner)
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 LE
Now i have a problem playing games (NFSU2 don't start / HL2 is crashing when i click to fire).
I think it's the latest NVIDIA driver. Where can i get the "one before the latest" driver? What is the version number of this driver?
Now i have tried the following drivers:
nVidia Forceware 66.93 (latest official driver)
nVidia Forceware 66.81
nVidia Forceware 67.02 (beta)
Half-Life 2 still crashes when i hit the mouse-button to fire (Screen freezes and i get the normal Windows Mouse).
Now i have start the steam validation of the HL2 files.
Steam is still working. I hope HL2 will work after that...
U using the same hard drive or was it a clean install? if u using the old one, did u uninstall the old graphs cards graphic b4 building the harddrive into the new machine (even if it was an nvidia card)?
No, i was having only a Notebook with ATi Mobility Radeon 9600.
Now i have sell my Notebook and bought the new PC (see above)
I was having an external HD drive, but the system (WinXP Pro + SP2) was installed on the internal HD. And also now on the new PC, i have a HD with the system and a second hd (the former external) with my games.
Steam & HL2 (Steam-Version) is installed on System-HD.
The latest official driver, gave me nothing problems too (66.93). I also had issues with the last official driver (61.77). Im back using the 61.76 drivers (about 5 months old), and am happy to say everything is cool again :)
Theres a driver archive on the Nvidia site. Open your eyes man!!!!! :p
damn you got lots of money man :D
@GLH
Sounds like you have a nice system there mate. And also what 'Luci' said. ;)
GLH, try unplugging the hdd that ur games are on and installing them in the new hdd (i know its a lot of hastle) but try it ;)
Theres a driver archive on the Nvidia site. Open your eyes man!!!!!Now i have cleaned my eyeglasses and found the driver archive.
(It's my first NVIDIA card. Until now i was having only ATi cards)
damn you got lots of money man @GLH: Sounds like you have a nice system there mate. And also what 'Luci' said. I have only paid 44 Euro !!!
(Because, i'v got "a lot of money" for my "old" notebook! :D )
GLH, try unplugging the hdd that ur games are on and installing them in the new hdd (i know its a lot of hastle) but try it!The Steam validation of my HL2 & CS:S files has taken a lot of time, but now the game works excellent with the 67.02 beta drivers !!!
(...and it runs FAST with the new graphic card :cool: )
Do you have any Stuttering or hiccups problems in games with your current setup? that gigabyte mobo + A64 3500 was my first choice but after reading many forums, I saw most of people somehow have problem with GeForce 6800 series and nForce3 based mobos and some of them have to disable fastwrite in bios to make it smooth and stable.
what brand of ram did you get for your setup ?
I don't have any problems in the game. It runs fast, stable and smooth.
I don't know what brand of RAM i bought, but it is a "special" DualChannel Pack with two "one on the other co-ordinated" 512 MB modules.
(I also updated the mainboard bios from F1 to F4 !!!)
Great! it's nice to see that finally someone has zero problem with his A64 based system (no Stuttering, no blue screen, no random crashes,.....), enjoy your new gaming setup man! ;)
BTW if you have CPU-Z, run it and go to SPD tab, you'll see the manufacturer of your ram there.
So, now i was using this CPU-Z tool.
The manufacturer is CORSAIR !!!
@GLH
Well I must say I am jealous. :p And ooh yeh Corsair is excellent Ram. ;)
@Grumpy:
If you want to know it:
3DMark05: 2.425 / AquaMark3: 43.946
Before using Rivatuner
3DMark05: 2.613 (+188) / AquaMark3: 45.296 (+1350)
After using Rivatuner to enable two VertexUnits that was disabled.
There are also two PixelUnits that are disabled, but when i enable
them i get some graphic errors.
By the way... IT'S FAST ENOUGH !!!
@GLH
By the way... IT'S FAST ENOUGH !!!
Good to hear, it should be fast too. :)
I am currently running a P4 3.2Mhz HT Cpu, 1gig Dual Channel Ram (soon to be 2gig) ati Radeon 9700 Pro but its only a 128mg card, (currently trying to track down the Radeon X800XT PE, its proving hard to find in South Australia). At the moment games run excellent but most only at 1024x768 and I want to be able to run them at 1600x1200. Using a Gigabyte GA-8KNXP Motherboard. Ive had it just over 12 months now and feel I am due for an upgrade on the ram and graphics card. ;)
How are you finding the Nvidia card compared to the Ati cards you used to always use? Which ati card did you last have?
My old computer parts get handed down to my 2 boys, they are running the Gigabyte GA-8INXP, 1Gig Dual Channel Ram, 2.8Mhz HT Cpu, but they currently only have a Nvidia Ti 4200 graphics card. They will score my Radeon card once I update which will probably be late next week sometime.
The kids do quite well from my upgrades after all they have good system for a 10 and 7 year old. ;)
My last computer was "only" a Notebook with a ATi Radeon 9600 mobility.
Ok, i was able to play HL2, but only in 800x600 and no AntiAliasing.
Before the notebook i was having a ATi Radeon 9600 Pro and i was contented with it. It was enough... at that time.
But now with HL2, FarCry & NFSU2 on my harddisk, i wanted MORE.
I'm very contented with my new graphic card.
But, when the ATi X800 would be not so much expensive (539,- Euro), i would have bought a X800 !!!
Here are the prices i have paid here in germany:
259,- Euro - CPU incl. Fan
244,- Euro - Leadtec nVidia GeForce 6800 LE
199,- Euro - Corsair DualChannel RAM
119,- Euro - Mainboard
79,- Euro - NEC 3500A(G) DVD-Burner
69,- Euro - Midi-Tower Case
52,- Euro - 80GB Samsung 7200 HDD (i also have a 120 MB HDD)
29,- Euro - FloppyDiskDrive with integrated 5in1 CardReader (Teac)
28,- Euro - Toshiba SD-M1802 DVD-Rom
(I think, at the earliest if my little son is old enough to play at a PC, I will spend money for a new PC. When my wife was seeing the bills, the first thing she said "i want new shoes" :( . But i have sold my notebook, so i only have paid 44,- Euro !!!)
