I would like to know if there is a program to take a file whether it a mpeg, avi, vob, wmv, etc and compress it to fit on a cd or dvd.. i have an old dvd player that will play vcd/svcd but not burnt dvd. I would like to be able to rip the movie from the dvd or use some that I already have stored on my computer and burn the to a cd. the problem is some of the files are over 800mbs.. Any ideas or is this not possible.

Just use a program like Ulead DVD MovieFactory to make your original files into a dvd folder. Then, if that folder winds up being too big for an actual dvdr disc then use another program like CloneDVD2 to shrink it to fit.

If i make a vcd, clonedvd2 will shrink an mpeg file. If i make a dvd do I need to make two files, like VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS. thanks Tyler.

With CloneDVD2 youll need to to work with either a real dvd or dvd folders like I stated above. When using Ulead DVD Movie Factory youll be able to automatically make DVD Folders out of your vcd files or mpegs. CloneDVD2 will not work with vcd files alone.

Ok, I think I am getting the hang of it, but can you compress mpegs to fit on a cd with Ulead.

No, but you can split them with TMPEG Encoder and burn them to multiple cd's.
