i think this is a relatively easy question.. sorry for the noobish style of it.

In order to rip the mp3 file from one of my cd's, i obviously need a program ( yay i get a cookie!!)

ok here's my question: what is a good program to use? i did a google search and noticed a buncha freeware ones.. but im very careful when downloading stuff-- esp. freeware, as i really dont feel like downloading some stupid spyware crap ( as in -- oh get free smilies or whatever dumb crap and then bam you're homepage is always searchbiz.jk lolol)
im actually a pc repair technician and more than half my time in the store is spent removing spyware and viruses from soccer mom's dell computers where their kids have aol accounts such as hottiebabe101 and download frickin kazaa and all the latest garbage so i have something to do with my life.

so my point in sayin this ridiculously long post is: although i can remove the garbage from my computer i dont feel like dealing with it and therefore i'd like to know what programs are legit and ok to use that you have had a good experience with to rip mp3's?
see? i got to the point rather quickly.
thanks!

There are quite a few good programs out there. I personally just use Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 or Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6. Either will do what you need fairly easily. Unfortunately these programs are not free.

Hmm, Im not sure on that one. Since I have Roxio, I never looked for a free program.

If no one here can help, Ill ask around and see what I can find for ya.

just get 'exact audio copy' (EAC) and the LAME mp3 encoder. look at the readme's and setup EAC for lame and your done!

ps. both are 100% free :)
