View Full Version : The eternal debate.
Ok, I have been wanting to mod my PSX for awhile now. I have a SCPH-7501 model and of course I hear people bicker back and forth on what mod chip to get. The main problem isn't that though. I suck at doing what is required to mod a PSX.. I have burned out other things before doing it. I don't know a soul around me who can help me do it either. So I am resorting to the other route. I am reluctant to do so, because it seems a community considers a person a "moron" if they don't chip. Anyways, it has come to it for me though. Now, as GE and GSlite have gotten so low on price these days, I just decide to go that direction. What would be better suited for my needs? A Gameshark 5 (or the last version to know to work well), a Gameshark Lite (or CDX) or any other of those "Boot Discs" (the PS-X-Change or Breaker Pro, which I don't know if I can trust or unless you guys can tell me otherwise).
Seeing the modding road isn't an option for me at the moment this is the only other route... and sorry elitist folks, I know modding is superior.

Well you could mod a psx but a modded ps2 will also play both ps2 and psx originals, imports and backups. I have a ps2 with dms3 and I haven't found a game it won't play yet. It plays anti-mod games too. You can pick up a non working console sold as parts on ebay cheap if they are selling it because of the dreaded "disc read error" and it's a ps2 version 1-3 you can mail call up sony's 1-800 number tell them the model # and tell them it's giving you "disc read error" and they will fix it for free. Now that's a cheap ps2. Sony had a class action lawsuit that they lost on these early consoles. They may not like it but they have to fix it for free if it's the right model number. Most people don't know this so very few get turned in. You can then either sell as a working ps2 or get it modded by someone reliable like www.norcalmods.com or www.socalmods.com. You can look up on google yourself. Just type in sony class action and you should be able to find the info. Go to the ps2 section and read ultimate info sticky. That will help too. Any questions reply or pm me.

Finding someone else to mod can't be that hard. I live in middle of nowhere and I found others willing to mod and they did a good job too. I'm certain there are more good people out there who mod but I have only dealt with 2 people.
