and to format then windows i should do what....?
(WIN XP)
ok, well i take it ur using winxp rite?
u need creat a dos boot floppy, click on the option wen promted wen u click on format floppy.
Now u need to stick the floppy in, and restart the pc
it should get u in dos
type:
format c: (then click on enter)
wen it asks yes or no type y and enter
Leave it, it will take quite a while depending on the size of your hdd.
Once done, restart the pc with the winxp cd in, its a bootable cd so the installation will launch on its own, if not. restart again go into the bios setup and make sure its set to look in the cd drive wen the pc startsup.
Install windows,
Once in windows install all the drivers
"Welcome to windows xp, would you like to take a tour"
Click on NO **** YOU BITCH
actually i think it only says no :D
Let me know how u get along :)

umm yea
i formatted a new disk to boot to msdos (usin winxp format)
and i got to msdos but it didnt recognize any drive
i tried formatting c:\
it said invalid drive
or some sh*t
am i doin somethin wrong or somethin?
..
yea i just tried to boot hdd first
then disk
but it just went into windows..
so yea..
..
yea i also tried goin to start
then run
and format c
it said drives in use
and it could dismount it
i said no to dismounting it then formatting it
could that be somethin thatll work?
no it has to be in dos, ok try this.
insert the win xp cd in (set the bios to read cd drive first) then reboot the pc and it should take u to the setup program, i believe u can delete any partition there so just delete partition c: and it should do the job, then just carry on with the installation.

Sounds like a problem with the ownership of the files. To solve this, go to the configuration panel and start Folder Options. On the second tab, you should find a setting called "use simple file sharing", switch that one to off. Now when you get the Properties of the old Documents And Settings folder, you get an extra Security tab where you can add an Owner for that folder and any subfolders of the folder. Add the name under which you logged in, and you should be able to access all files now. You can then switch "Use Simple File Sharing" on again.

i found that before when a folder was open
then goin to tools
then folder options
i didnt think it was the same one...
......
because.....
i didnt see that option
but then i went to documents and settings
and found the owner folder
so i second clicked it
and yea
found that sharing thing
i unclicked the make this folder private
waited a while
then tried

Yeah, Control Panel was what I meant. I've got a shortcut to the Folder Options in my Control Panel, but you can also access it in a menu of Windows Explorer. The second tab in the folder options should give you a bunch of advanced settings, each one has a checkmark to enable or disable it. In XP there's a setting "Use Simple File Sharing" or something like it, which when switched off gives you an extra tab under properties of each file, with the whole security settings. These security settings are in fact the real way Windows XP manages file access and ownership, but by default they use a simpler scheme that works like previous Windows versions, where you can only share a folder or make it private. So disable that "Use Simple File Sharing" setting and you should be able to add an ownership to the files in question. Heheh. The problem is that I used to have an english installation of XP, but right now it's dutch so I have to translate things like "Configuratiescherm" in "Control Panel".
