Intro to Modchips?

I like to play on Live quite a bit, but I also would like to back my games up on my harddrive. So, I'm looking into the modchip thing, but am not really sure what's out there or where to start.

if u play live... like rest of the losers
u gotta have an original copy of the disc
and u gotta turn off the chip after lockin ur hdd
just for simplicity
use xbconnect with x2 lite i fu can solder.. xbit if u cant
