Can anyone help me. I'm trying to get my modded xbox to be DVD region free. I've downloaded DVD X V1.0 onto CDRW but when I try and run it in my xbox it just comes up with a message saying that the disc is not a recognised format?? What am I doing wrong?? - probably something blinding stupid??

Thanks for the reply. The truth is I don't know how the DVDX iso file works. I'm assuming that you run it off a CDRW when booting up the Xbox, then the xbox will allow you to swap the CDRW for a DVD from any region ? (same as a PAL/NTSC boot disc that I have that works in that way, this runs off a CDRW that you use at boot up).
You could be right, I may not have closed the session. I will give it another try.

You were right I didn't close the session. I copied the DVD X .ISO file again at speed x4 and closed the session. Strangely the x box still won't recognise the CDRW. I would assume the CDRW is scratched or something but I know it isn't cos I've used the very same CDRW in my xbox 1 week ago no problems. I just erased the CDRW and copied the .iso file onto it??? (maybe that's the problem).
I have no file managers or dashboard managers - do I need them?

There is an xbox dash dvd free region patch out. A new version was released rescently. Use that instead of dvdx. If you have xbox live, have one patched to load, and the other original.

Thanks for all your help on this. I've downloaded the new patch which sounds pretty straight forward (Evox Install looks like too much hassle!?).
I didn't realise the Xbox was so fussy about speed of burning etc. I will keep trying until it works though!
So will the Xbox run anything with an .iso extension on a CDRW no matter what it's called. I would have expected a file would have to be renamed to something like default.iso
xboxdash dvd region free patch disc v1.04.iso seems a little long??
Thanks again.

I think the problem is how you are burning. Are you doing a data burn and putting the iso file on the disk? If so, that is not the right way. The iso is like a zip file, holding all the program files into one image. But when burned properly, unzips to the disk. That is the easiest way I can think of to explain it. If you burn an iso, you have to do a "global image" or iso burn.

If I can figure out how to install Evox, anyone can!!
Just install Evox to your C drive, create an apps and games folder on you E drive. Modify a few lines in Evox.ini. Have DVD player point to DVDX instead of xboxdash. So all you have to do is put in you DVD movie and select launch DVD.
ISO files are CD images, you do not burn ISO’s to a CD as data files. ISO’s CONTAIN the data files. Somewhere in your burner software will be an option to record from image, or open image file or something like that. Craxtion and XISO are programs to build Xbox format ISO’s. You must have downloaded an image but most apps you will need to build your own image and burn if you are going to install from CD. Also get BOXPLORER and learn how to use it. I installed Evox using Boxplorer when I couldn’t get my FTP transfer working.

Brilliant!
I think that's the answer then. i knew it would be something blindingly obvious in the end. I will burn the CDRW using the ISO format and i reckon it should work then. Thank you so much for your help so far. Will post and update to let you know if I've succeeded or not.
(p.s. sorry for being such a dumb*ss, I'm pretty knew to all this stuff)
Thanks again!
