This will explain how to get the Adaptec Software downloader to download and install the new ASPI without Adaptec hardware.
1) Go to Start| Settings| Control Panel
2) Double click on Add New Hardware
3) Click next then click next again and it should start searching for plug and play
4) It will list some hardware after the search but select "No, the device isn't in the list" then press next. *Step 4 may be different for you*
5) Select "No, I want to pick the hardware from a list" and press next
6) Double click SCSI Controller on the hardware list
7) Under manufacturers select Adaptec and pick any model you want from the list and press next
8). Keep selecting next til it wants you to restart your computer but pick "No, I will restart computer manually"
9) Run the ASPI32.exe or whatever it is called and after it completes installing don't restart your computer.
10) Right-click My Computer, go to properties, click the Device Manager tab
11) Go til you see SCSI controller thing and it should be open with a yellow circle and an eclimation by the model you installed
12) Click it and click the remove button so it is removed
13) It should remove and you can now restart your computer
You should now have the new ASPI drivers by cheating Adaptec on something that should be free.
