to be honist im a newbie at xbox i just know lots about ps2 and media. i would say use riteks and i doubt u willl have many coasters

to be honest i've never had a problem with any branded dvd-r and i've backed up quite a few! if i end up with a coaster it's always been a software problem of some kind never the disc itself
i think most peeps would agree
cause if you aint choose the proper command it won't matter if you've used ritek or not you've got yourself a coaster

i have used all sorts of disks and had no problems the latest disks have been bulkpaq (orange) i have used about 20 of them 4 xbox games with no problems i know i have done the backups no problem as they work on 1 of my xboxes but not the other 1 4 example

xbox2 plays
counter strike
backyard wrestling
speed kings
max payne 2
rogue ops
but xbox1 wont play any of the games xbox2 can play and vise versa which is wat i dont understand if any1 can shed some light on this it will b appreciated thanx.

how old/new are both xbox?
what drives have both xbox got?
maybe answering these we could all help

they both have xecuter 2 chips installed
xbox1 has a samsung drive
xbox2 has a thomson drive
as 4 how old they r i dont really know as i brought them both second hand is there a way of finding out if u need any other info please let me know and thanx 4 your help.

if you look under the xbox it has a date on that will help
i can't understand the samsung drive not reading the backups i have a samsung and a philips the samsung xbox is new anyway but the philips is more than a year old and it plays all my xbox backups on dvd-r i grant you it's now fussy with cd-r
you are sure you have a samsung drive not reading dvd-r backups that work in your thompson?

peachymojo thanx 4 your reply i am very certain about the makes of the dvd drives as i took them apart last night i was also surprised as the person who chipped my xbox said the samsung was the best so i have no idea y its not working 4 me as 4 the dates u said look under the xbox but 1 of them has no stickers on them i guess the person who had b4 me mustov taken them off 4 some reason but the xbox1 has the stickers the only date i can c is 1999-2001 dolby labs.thanx 4 helping me out i appreciate it.

Regarding disks can anyone tell me if a Thompson Drive will read a DVD +RW cause alot of you use DVD-RW and unsure so can some one help me thanx....

have you tried updating the bios on both xboxs?
because you didn't say which one you had in either
you don't have to take the xbox apart to see what drive they have though you can tell by just ejecting the tray
i should imagine the thompson one is fairly old though and i can't understand why he took all the stickers off you have checked the tray shapes yeah? because he probly put a samsung sticker on the drive god knows what he's done
have you had them long?
i'm not sure when they started putting samsung in the xbox

both xboxes have been flashed
xbox 1 tray has 2 holes either side of it and 2 corners took out at the front.
xbox2 tray has none of those i hope this makes sense i did try 2 add pics of them but it said files 2 big i have had both xboxes 4 about 1 year got them a couple of weeks apart.

and I haven't had one bad burn ever. The only costers I've made was when I clicked the button to cancel once by accident and when my friend went to install C&C on my comp (he didn't realize something was burning cuz my screen was off)

sorry i dont know when i go 2 the settings menu on the xbox it says bios unknown is there any other way 2 find out or shall i just flash them again but i do it this time instead of the other bloke who chipped my xbox.

it's maybe worth a try i mean i had my xbox updated by someone in october 2003 and it came back with the 4976 which didn't play some of my backups at all couple of games i bought just after wouldn't even boot but then i had the 4977 a couple of weeks or however long after and they played
maybe it's a bios problem i always update it when i know its ok mainly wait for the guys in here to say its good first

i have reflashed my xboxes and used ritek disks but i still get the same problem so i now want 2 try the way i burn them wat is the best software 2 use and wat options do i have 2 change if any thanx.

if the games work else where eg trying them on a friends modded xbox it won't make any difference with the way they are backed up because the info has gone on proper it may be the lasers in the xbox drives wearing (as you have no dates who knows how old they are now). try cleaning them someone meantion a maxwell cleaner of somekind but i can't find the thread can anyone remember?
anyway if they work elsewhere it's a hardware problem (as been as you've the latest bios now)

my brother and his gf's dad has the same problem any games i burn now wont play on any of the 4 xboxes ocasionly 1 of them works on 1 of my xboxes but i tried 2 burn sonic hero's which wont play on any of the 4 xboxes but rogue ops will only play on 1 of my xboxes surley it cant b the laser on all 4 xboxes which makes me think it cant b a hardware fault i just dont know wat 2 do it's doing my head in.

sorry you never said you may have a problem understanding how to backup your games you gave a list of what works where, not none of them don't work anywhere
ok start at the begining what are you using to connect to your pc?
what software are you using to transfer?
what operating system have you got?
what drive are you reading when you do connect?
basically step by step would help us all help you

to connect 2 pc i use a broadband router
i am using flash fxp 2 connect 2 my xbox
i have windows xp
if u mean wat drive on flash fxp i am using then i am using d drive (where the games info is)
i use stomp record now max 2 burn the games
so basicaly i switch on my xbox with no games in it connect via flash fxp then i close flash fxp once i know its connected right then i put the games in i want 2 backup reopen up flash fxp then make a folder where i want the game 2 go then open up the d drive on flash fxp and transfer the game files 2 the selected folder then i close flash fxp when transfer completed.

I then open up stomp record now max then i close the wizard and select data add my game files then i delete the info in volume label then i select dvd recording options and then go2 recording type and select track at once (tao) ,not closed then on file system type i select udf-up to 128 in filename length,any char..plus 8+3 tree (bridge) then i click the record button and wait thats about it is this enough info if not just ask wat u need 2 know once again thanx 4 your help and patience.

then the only thing i can suggest is you don't do data burn and try iso make iso with craxtion open up record now choose IMAGE get you iso and burn it to you dvd writer which is which one by the way? or open nero 6 under the menu recorder choose burn image and burn slow always close discs i've never had a problem with either software package burning an iso i also find iso boot up alot quicker
also make sure your recording options in record now are these
disc at once (DAO) closed
cd mode1 (blocking 2048) - dvd
these settings work perfect for me anytime on any branded dvd-r

im not sure wat dvd drive i have as it's a inbuilt 1 i have looked for the name but i cant c it the pc is ei system if this helps i have downloaded craxtion and done the nessarily stuff i am just about 2 try 2 burn it 2 disk but b4 i do do i have 2 do anything else like patching the games or something.

np m8 i tried using craxtion but it still didnt play but i seem 2 remember some1 had this problem a long time ago and it was there dvd writer so i am gonna borrow my m8s and try that i'll let u know how it goes.

would u believe it it worked it wont let me use bulkpaq disks but i can use ridata bit dearer but worth it so anyway all my games work on all 4 xboxes wasted about 10 disks trying different things but it was worth it in the end i would like 2 thank every1 who helped but special thanks 2 peachymojo 4 all your time and effort so thanx much appreciated.

thats ok actually i'm not keen on bulkpaq i had a one off pack of 25 and every one of them was disc write error so i never got them again
i always use datasafe media (ritek) work fine
