hi again,

now that i've installed the xbit modchip (thanks for the answer to the other thread "installing xbit"), i'm trying to flash the bios.

for this i use the software downloaded on the DMS web site : xbit flash prog. but i can't flash the bios. i succeed to connect the software with the chip, i succeed to format the chip but when i try to select 1 of the 6 flash-configurations proposed, the sofware start to "erase the blocks" and finally nothing...the same message remains : "erasing block..."

any help please??

in advance thanks.:(

yes it is connected to the chip using the switch. ther's a green light led when i connect it to the pc by the usb port.

and i'm yet using the software manual you indicated. and so the problem starts with step 5 :

Step 5:

Format the X-B.I.T with a Flash-Configuration of your choice. There are six different configurations available. Click on the "Format"-button. Select a configuration by clicking in the according "Radio"-button as shown below. The software will start erasing the entire Flash. The image shows the configuration "6".

i'm not yet arrived at the step to choose the right size bios.
my problem it's that when i choose a flash configuration clicking on a radio-button, the software blocks itself.

i red this on the DMS web site :

"It took a while to investigate that problem but we think we have found the reason now:
We have tested the PC-Flash software together with the X-B.I.T hardware successfully on several PCs running Windows®XP. We can confirm that the problem is not only caused by the operation system itself. The error occurs when using Windows®XP together with a certain "NEC" chipset on your PC-mainboard. However this is a problem which is very difficult to track down since we can not test the software on all the different combinations of operation systems and chipsets out there. Due to the large number of different chipset manufacturers it might turn out that there is another combination of Windows®XP and a chipset which could cause similar issues.

We tracked down the problem and we will have a patch ready for you latest on monday the 13th 2003. Unfortunately we will have to reprogram the USB-controller of the X-B.I.T if you are using Windows®XP together with a chipset which is causing the PC-Flash software to lock up. If that is the case please send back your X-B.I.T to your supplier, we will reprogram/exchange all devices quickly. We are sorry for the inconvenience but please be aware that we designed our product according to the official USB standards and that the problem is not caused by us however some PC hardware manufacturers do not go inline with those standards."

i don't have a nec chipset but...

thanks for all your answers

i didn't fully understand the difference between the bios and the dasboard.
when i flash the chip with the new bios, could i still boot on the ms dasboard ?

I think i know what you've done here.

If you have put the chip in without flashing the bios first then I've got this whole thing sussed.

If you put the chip in without flashing it first and it's booting to the microsoft dashboard (Ie the green screen) then the chip is misaligned.

If there is no bios on the chip then your xbox will just stay at a black screen when you turned it on.

The xbit is pretty good at aligning but if the 'g-spot' is slightly out it won't recognise it at all.

As for you flashing ur chip I can't see why you'd be having a problem. Best thing to do is make sure you have the latest xbit software as they did have problems in the original release.

that problem doesnt apply to u cuz u can connect to ur chip
just try goin through the walkthrough
step by step
and see if it works
if not
then let us noe...
and the bios is what the system boots off of while the dashboard is what it boots
if u really wanted to, u could still have th microsoft bios.. but i recommend the evox bios
..
also.. what size is the bios ur tryin to put on.. also.. which bios

the dms was un availabe due to a defect in the compatability with the usb port, and due to having issues with windows xp. when i did have an x-bit i had to try literally with no exxagerations 5 different pc's and a laptop before i got one to work with the chip for flashing othewise everytime i went to flash it it froze ad a different point durring the flashing.

good sentence huh but i guess it still give the info, jsut try a few different pc's preferably one without win xp

Jat_83 is right. If the chip hasn't got any bios on it and it was turned on, you will get an ms screan with several languages on it telling you your xbox needs service. I know your flash software won't work, but the chip must also not be aligned. Either that or the on/off switched is set to off (make sure the flash protect is off as well).

Also, your xbox isn't on when your trying to flash, right?

the chip doesnt have to be aligned to flash it properly and his comp doesnt even get through the flashing process sucessfully
