Hey guys, I'm new to this backing up stuff. I just started and have made some backups of my PS2 games and now I was going to try to backup my PS1 games, but I have a question. I was reading the threads on here and noticed there are a lot of posts and tutorials about patches for PS games. Well ... what exactly is a patch and what does it do and what is it for?

Patches are basically fixes for games that you in particular are having problems with. So if your not having problems with your games then dont worry about patching.

There are other kinds that allow cheats and such but they dont always work.

Certain games like Resident Evil/Bio Hazard won't work unless they are patched.

not true. If you have a stealth chip they will.

well it was true back when I back-up my copies, no patch I couldn't play any of my resident Evil games. I couldn't play my import Bio Hazard Gun survivor with the guncon until I had patched the game.

I haven't copied a game for a while because I no longer play Playstation, I was copying games before Playstation became PSone.

A stealth mod chip for the PSX isn’t new technology. Not more then a few months after the first mod protected PSX games started turning up; we started seeing the stealth mods start turning up as well.
