I'm having *major* trouble backing up self-booting DC games. So far I've only managed to do one (MSR). My 1st and only success was using Nero V5.0.3.1.
So far I've tried the latest CDRWIN, CloneCD (2.8.3.1), Nero, and DiscJuggler (V3 and V2).
Nero and CloneCD both go through the reading and writing process fine with no trouble, but when I put the games into the DC I get the music menu appearing.
Discjuggler. Both versions lock up about 2 seconds into *reading* the disks. I have to reboot as even CTRL+ALT+DEL doesn't work.
Do I need to use any specific settings in when using either CloneCD or Nero (or even DJ, which locks up 100% of the time on reading)? If so, please let me know what they are before I shoot the cat!
Rather then do a CD to CD copy, I am imaging to the HD 1st using my writer.

P3/600
256 Meg RAM
Plextor R412C writer
Windoze 98 OSR2
Media: Memorex, BASF, Intenso, TDK
