Shenmue on japanese Dreamcast

How can I get the u.s. version of Shenmue to work on a japanese DC? Other u.s. games (Capcom vs. SNK) work fine, but Shenmue just locks at about 95% during booting. I'm using the Utopia Boot CD 1.1.

I have this problem too, I have tried too use Gameshark CDX and Utopia Bootdisc,
It does not work tooo.

I wonder how to fix this problem?
Do I have to install modchip?
