is there a way to take a stock xbox with a bad stock HD and resurrect it with a mod chip and new HD?

it seems a problem (from what ive read in the tutorials) would be restoring your /C and /E to the new drive, since you cant back-up from the original busted HD.

no, you also need the hdd key to lock the drive, unless you never want to go on xbox or have your xbox work without the chip on.

You will have to:
1. Mod your xbox, and know someone else with a modded xbox.
2. Do an hdd upgrade with your friends xbox
3. Keep the drive unlocked then place it in your xbox. If it is unlocked, you will be able to play it in your xbox with the modchip enabled. If the chip is off, you will get an error.

If anyone else has any other suggestions or know of any other way, feel free to state it.

thats good info quall. thanks. the bad box is actually my freinds. my xbox is modded, so i could set up the drive for him.

well i just called him, and he said that is better than a broken xbox. lmao. true.

so i just leave the HD unlocked from the start as i format it from my box. make sure the evox.ini is set to drive:unlocked. do i put the /C and /E backup from my HD on the new for the booty xbox?

any further info will be great, since i believe i am going to do this soon.

yah, use slayers auto install to format it and everything. After is is formated with the required partitions, just copy C and E contents to the new drive. Again though, his xbox won't play if he doesn't have a modchip, or it is turned off. And unfortunately, xbox live will ban any xbox that is not locked. You might be able to lock it on his xbox after you switch, but i don't think it will work.

I was gonna use Slayers the other day when installing my hdd but I was reading up on it and it seems to install lots of other stuff I didnt need. I just found it easier to use my old evox boot disc and send Raw commands. Thanks for the info on that RMS!
