Do copied games suffer in any way compared to original disks, since the DC GD is about 1GB in size? Do perhaps smaller than 640 MB games behave the same, while larger ones have to suffer some cutoffs, like FMVs, CGI and sound?

TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION.....YES
a lot of the copied dc games do suffer from some down sampling of video, missing sounds, and slower load times.
the only problem of which you may be able to fix is slower load times...
find a dummy adding program and add a dummy file to the game you're making..i always use 700mb cds for dc games.

you want to make sure you add dummy files to the smaller dc rips..like crazy taxi or virtua tennis.
crazy taxi without the dummy files has you driving on a black screen with objects popping up in the back ground, but add the dummy files and the game should play just fine.
with virtua tennis if you don't have the dummy files the game can't load fast enough to enable the doubles playing.....which really sucks, because this is by far one of the funnest games on the dc..in fact i would say most fun!!

the reason you want to dummy a 700mb cd is because the closer you get to a gd the better, dummy files push the game to the outer rings of the cd where the info is read much faster, since the cd covers more info per revolution.

for the most part though, the games play very close to the originals, and thanks to all the release groups who put their hard work into each one.

if i have confused you..im sorry
and if you have any other questions i'll answer them if i can.
