A month ago I gave my PS2 to an installer so he will fix a messiah (not pro) into my PS2.

I got my PS2 back and the installer said that I need to tap reset for booting PS2 games. Now I know that that is the method for loading PS2 games with Magic 2 or 3.1.

Is it possible that the messiah 2 not pro have the same boot procedures as the the magic?

Is there a way to check if it is a messiah or magic without opening the PS2?

according to charlies thread on factoids on chip behavior, it could be a messiah but the only way to be sure is to open it and look for your self. http://fileforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=37315

the real question is what possible gain would an installer have for not putting in the chip you requested? do you know this installer, or his/her reputation? surely good business sense would be to do the job you paid for. most likely you got what you paid for. does it work?

Ah ur either talkig about the messiah 1 or a messiah 2 clone.

Some messih 2 clones make you tap the reset or has your installer mugged you and installed a magic 3.1? who knows

sounds like bad business to me. you are probably gonna have to open it to be sure. if it is not what you paid for then, if it was me i would take it back to the installer and see what he has to say about it.. sounds like he took you for someone who does know the diff, did not expect you be on here talking to fellow gamers.

on second thought, you said its working, maybe it would be better advice to stay away from there, and warn others of your experience. hate to have you take it back and then have it fixed again by the same installer.

the next thing ya know we are back in here discussing how to fix some other problem he might cause. ya just never know with the way the economy is. it has a way of changing peoples hospitality and curtesy to others.

It's not messiah 2 for sure, it does'nt have the same boot procedures as my chip.

And can't open the PS2, if I'll do I'll lose my warenty on the chip :\

your right about the warranty, forgot about that one, better to leave to a certified tech then. not good business.

What are your boot procedures for each mode? Also, if you insert a ps2 backup and let it sit, does it boot on its own?

The Chip boot procedures are the same as the magic 3.1.

If I insert a ps2 backup and let it sit it's just keep reading the disc and after about 20-30 sec it's giving me the red clouded screen.

Then it is prob a magic 3.1 which isn't good especially if you have a v7/v8. What version ps2 is it?

I'm not sure... 30004 R
I think it means V5/6

If you have 2 screws in the upper rim of the expansion bay it is a v4. If you have 3 it is a v5/v6. Magic 3.1 isn't bad since you don't have a v7 but you did get screwed.
