This is gonna be kinda long... But please bare with me.. Cos i need help.

About a year and a half ago I got my playstation 2 chipped with a Neo 2.. I think its that anyways... Definately an old version neo chip anyways... Now My Playstation 2 is struggling to play Original Dvds. It plays "predator special Edition" Fine... But It doesn't Play Spiderman or any of my other movies. Which i found wierd. My games run fine... Both Dvd games and CD games.. Although The playstation is being a little noisey...(is that normal) Its not making a HELL of a lot of noise... Just the odd sound... Like dreamcast used to make? Anyways... Back on topic =) Do you think my ps2 is starting to die? Because of the chip.. Iv been told it happens.. And now after a year and a half... Do you think its run its course?
If I get the chip removed... Will the damage get any worse? Obviously it wont FIX it... to remove it... Damage is probably done.. But removing it... Will that stop any more damage? Because im fine with it not running dvd movies.. Because i have a dvd player for that... I just don't want my original Ps2 games to stop running... Thanks for any help.

And sorry If what i've said is just one big Ramble. =)

Ade

*edit*

I just found out... Its a neo 2.2 Chip i have.

A year and a half is about the average lifespan of a ps2 with a neo chip. The neo sends too high of a voltage to your laser, resulting in a shortened life span. Taking out your chip will help lengthen the life of your ps2, but most of the damage has already been done. You don't have much time life regardless.

info above is most likely correct
but
i had v4 with neo 2 for a year and a half (heavily used) had cap fitted saves the laser
often it would strugle to play dvds, all it needed was a cleaning disk run through it
the ps2 is still playing fine with messiah 1 in it now must 4 year old now

cleaning disk are a few £ only its worth a try
especially if your neo has the cap fitted

no cap most likely the laser is dying

dvd films struggle because they are constantly reading
most ps2 games load ,play after it has loadedtry gta vice city this loads as it plays i think u see the effect

I only have one advise for you:
Change the modchip to a Messiah 2 Pro or DMS3 and then replace your DVD-Rom drive, or else you'll probably have the same problem as I did. I had a PS2 V5 with a Neo 2.2 fitted, at the beginning everything was okay, but after a few months and even using only cdr brands like Verbatim, TDK and Philips, I started to notice the PS2 had difficulty in reading certain cdrs, 4 months later it would boot DVD games or movies only 5 minutes after I put them in, and a month later, when I was trying to play a game in cdr format, the cd started spining so fast and I ejected the cd, when I reset the console, there was just a black screen and the console wouldn't respond to the Eject command, a fuse and a chip fried. Now I bought a new one(V7) and fitted a DMS3, I hope I have no problems as people say this chip is safe.
