Trying to make a backup of Zanzarah but it has got Phenoprotect, never heard of this one. Could someone help me out with this please?

Thanks in advance

Phenoprotect at last, sacrebleu!

Haven't heard of this one for quite some time - almost "missed" it. :D

A tough one. Uses a deadly combo of bad sectors AND special subchannel tracks (data and audio) similar to console/securom games!

A throwback to good ole' days when older versions of Clonyx not only identified the protection, but also suggested the appropriate settings for CloneCD

Fortunately I still have an older Clonyx too hehe... :p

These settings U will use 4 making the dump with CloneCD:

- Read subchannel data from data tracks
- Read subchannel data from audio tracks
- Regenerate data sectors (good idea 2 always leave this on) ;)
- 'Fast error skip' settings set to 'Auto'
- ISS (Intelligent bad Sector Scan) enabled with 100 sector skip
- 4x data read speed
- 4x audio read speed
- medium audio extraction quality

And when burning the image:

- Maximum write speed
- do not repair subchannel data - that's right, as for PSX & some other console games..

et voila, that's it.

-> As usual be careful when making the dump (ie. when reading CD): before burning it to CD (preferably CD-RW at first) you could test the image by mounting it with (latest) 'Daemon Tools' or 'Alcohol 120%', without any PROTECTION emulation enabled, to make sure the game installs and launches properly.

-> the fact that Clonyx advises to have ISS enabled suggests that, like some other protections (Laserlock, Ring Protech...), this CD not only has read errors, but a sh*tload of them too: having ISS turned off will of course still work - and even give U more of a 1:1 image, but it might take hours to read!

-> I you choose to use Blindwrite instead, the equivalent of CloneCD's 'ISS' in Blindread is 'Multiple Gaps'. But personally, when it came to CDs riddled with massive zones of read errors such as Laserlok or Ring Protech I never used BW as it often resulted in a "coaster-image".

-> I you're using a modern reader/burner with good subchannel reading for the dump, you could set the reading times to 'max' too. If it's a Liteon burner, I've heard that recent Liteon drives are much better at reading subchannel at max speed than low (4x) speed!!! I know, seems contradictory, but I've confirmed this countless times when reading 'Securom (very) new' disks!

And remember again:

ALWAYS TEST THE DUMP WITH A VIRTUAL CD EMULATOR

Good luck m8 U'll need it :D
