yeh im a newbie to this so try not to flame me too much and i'l prolly get things wrong.

i baught a ps2 with a chip a year and a half ago, its been working fine it boots psone copies and ps2 rips perfectly, but i copied my first DVD game the other day with nero express and there were no errors, but i cant boot it. i dont know whether this is the game/boot method/chip that wont let me boot it. the game was GTA3 and i used DVD-X to boot it, by loading DVD-X up and swapping the disc when it was fully loaded then press start. it didnt work tho. so now i want to know exactly what chip i have actually got, ive opened up my ps2 before so im pretty confident i wont mess anything up if i open it up again, i just need to look for it right? where will it be and how, just by looking at it, will i know what chip it is?

thank you in advance for your help.

Hi, t0m

As far as I know Nero is not a good program to backup ps2 DVD's. I suggest you read the "Factoids: Backup Procedures" and try one of those methods.

I use RecordNow Max to make my backups and thy all work fine (exept for vice city, see other topic).

You could make a picture of you modchip and post I here so other people on this forum can have a look at it and tell you which one you have.

Sounds like either a Neo(lets hope not) or a no solder. Try using their boot procedures as seen here (http://www.fileforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38232)

Don't slag nero off. It is fine as long as u know the settings for dvd copying. I have used the following to copy ps2 DVD:

1. Nero 5.5.10.28
2. PrimoDVD2
3. RecordNowMax
4. Alcohol120%
5. DiscJuggler
6. InstantCD/DVD6.5
7. ISOBuster
8. DVDDecrypter

All of them r fine however stick to the tried and tested methods that r explained in the stickies at the front of the forum if u new to the game!!

i read all the stickies a few days ago, i read numberous help files and tutorials too but this was a last resort because i know you must all hate it when newbies come with a problem which can easily be solved by help files or whatever sorry.

i will take a picture of it but i dont know where abuots on my ps2 it will be, i wouldnt know where to start looking and if i find it i probably wont know that thats the chip. can anyone please tell me in detail the whereabouts where a chip will be?

on the boot methods, they all boot with GS2 which i dont have, how much is it? i was tyring to boot it with DVD region X

i'l try and get that Recordnow Max, see if it makes a difference.

Thankyou for your help so far :) i appriciate it

Choose the disasembly guide here (http://www.modchip.ca/install/ps2/) for your version ps2. You can't miss the chip. It will look like it doesn't belong.
